Well, time to show off my football ignorance and what better place to do it then among Llamas.
What is the deal with FM 2005 and player positions? I have a guy, he's a forward L/C. Decsription, news etc. calls him a striker. I have another guy, F L/C, game call him a midfielder...what? What the heck is a forward, exactly? An attacking midfielder or a strike who plays on the wing?
Which brings me to...what the heck is a winger then? I have a midfielder right, calls him a midfielder, fair enough. Another midfielder right and he's a winger?
Then there's my DMC, who is called a defender, while another DML/C is called a midfielder. And finally, there is the D/DM RL who is an attacking full back.
Okay, so who cares? Except that I get these guys becoming bent out of shape because I am not playing them at their strongest position.
HELP!!

Suspect you may get "modded" as this could be in GQ but here's an explanation in the meantime...
Basically, all of the players you have listed have multiple positions. The description of them helps to understand which is their strongest.
For example - an FC could be described as a striker, or as a midfielder. Chances are he'll play in the AMC position pretty well but he'll also play in the SC position too. If he's described as a midfielder, he probably won't play so well in the SC position. If he's described as a striker, he'll probably play better right up front.
A winger is a midfielder who likes to play wide and get forward, for want of a better description.
The DMC being a defender thing I don't really get, I have to say...

Thankee Matt, makes sense to me. And no worries about getting modded this places always beats GQ for a straight (and not so straight) answer. Besides, one can always hope it will spiral off topic and turn into something truly interesting

Since it wouldn't be reasonable for it to stay off-topic too long, my thruppence-worth...
I've heard tell of players having individual preferences and quirks about their play that are hidden where only the Spawn will find them.
Might be those quirks.
Of course, since it's news reports that bring these discrepancies to your attention, it could just be crap journalism.
