06-07 Season - Promotion!
Started off £170k in the red with a squad of 27, so got the manager's axe out and cut it to 17. The team were decent going forward but needed tightening at the back, so I brought in a couple of defensive players I had my eye on, and my scout found another couple that I signed after trials.
Had a play with the tactics and found it worked when I beat three First Division sides to get to the Intermediate Cup semis, where we got tonked by Lurgan Celtic - a team I used to hammer 5 or 6-1 until they got promoted. Did my best to get us knocked out the other cups as soon as.
Had a great start to the league season, beating most of the decent sides, and having the best defensive record in the league. This and the Cup success meant my attendances doubled which was keeping the board sweet.
It was all going rosy until 6 games left, when the FM Trademark Badly Timed Form Loss started. I went from top of the league to needing a win in my last match to secure 2nd place, all in just 4 games. Away to Killyleagh, went a goal down after 6 minutes, and it stayed like that until the 85th, by which time I was seconds from having a big cry and throwing the laptop in the bin. My star striker threw himself at a long ball and we were halfway there. My super-sub forward then did the business 2 minutes into injury-time, and I stopped tearing my hair out long enough to realise it was 4am, and I should really go to bed...this is getting addictive.
The NI managers job just became available as well - could do that part-time, I suppose.
