From reading some of the topics here, I've come to the conclusion that at least a few of you guys find it ok to shortlist and scout players who are mentioned in the media.
I think it is OK (Please don't burn my a55 out ), and in most of my games I've done so. Of course, never hiring before getting the scout report on the player.
The fact is: In my current game, I'm playing in Brazil, and as you must have noticed in another thread around here, there are 128 (yeah, that's correct :eek teams in the Third Division, which leads to having at least some twenty players mentioned in the media each week... Bizarre, huh??
My approach to it has always been the following: I'll only shortlist players who I've already seen playing IRL, or players of teams in the same state of my team.
But there's a kind of strange problem... In the last 3 years, I've spent at least half the weekends watching football on TV, which leads to me knowing too many players (IRL, of course), which then leads me to not being able to apply the "sign who you know" ""rule"".
Please advice me on how you guys would deal with this situation... One thing I thought to do was to sign only those who play in the states of the teams I'm currently managing and those of the state where I was born...
Again, before you burn me, this is not questioning to the rules. I follow them as much as I can.
I'll reply back, but thanks in advance for any advice.

If the media mentions them and brings them to your attention then I would probably scout them first then buy them if they are decent. I don't need to worry about IRL stuff.

Craig, when i play in Brazil I like to employ RL stuff... Things like say good stuff of the managers I like and all of it...
Until CM 01-02, I didn't have the time to watch and read too much about football, so all I had was a vague knowledge of the lower leagues in Brazil.
Nowadays, I sign First and Second Divisions PPV, go to practically all Internacional games, and try to watch some 3rd Division matches near my city.
The problem with just scouting the guy the media brought to my attention is that, like I said, media speaks of at least 20  players mentioned each week.
Only if I signed some 8 or 9 scouts I would be able to reach half of these players...
I'm getting frustraded... :thdn:

You've got to be realistic, a manager wouldn't scout every player mentioned, maybe just ones that get mentioned almost every week or players that he knows play in positions that his team need cover.
