fm offers the worst ever way of setting up network games. why cant my friend enter my ip address its giving me and join my game?? can things not just be simple and straight forward!!? I have tried following through the forums but nothing helps its just a disaster

Your not being very specific about the problem or generous with other information. Do you use a firewall or a router?

You cant? I gues thats changed since FM07 then, as it worked a charm in that version (iirc).

Just open the ports on your router and set up your firewall software to allow FM to run on a network.

And make sure it gives the outward IP, haven't checked what it does. Make sure your router forwards the ports to your pc and so on.

You asked why it can't be simple, the answer is kinda simple. With the faster all time established connectins and securityrisks on the net everyone is upping security on their computers. No matter how easy SI makes it there are half a dozen other companies that are making sure it is not going to be a walk in the park connecting to your computer form outside.

its just so frustrating though! we have disabled our firewalls and opened ports 10093 and 10094 on our routers. but still it comes up with saying unable to connect! what info do you need to be able to help us or is it all too complicated?

when opening ports for fm08 what do you put in the application part then? does this matter or as long as the ports are correct should it be fine?

I think you need to forward the communication on those ports to your computer somehow. Different routers work in different ways but if I want others to connect to a program on my computer I need to make a virtual server on my router that tells computer trying to connect where to go after the router.
