I pretty much got sick of managing in the Premier League since every season its the same thing. If you're one of the top teams then its fine and you get your pick of players. For everyone else you're scrapping by trying to make do with a moderate transfer budget while hoping some big club doesn't try to poach your key player. Meanwhile other teams are spending that same amount on a single player like its nothing and then pre-game predictions come in and its always some ridiculous odds stacked against your team. Sometimes it makes you wonder why you even bother trying to build your team in the first place.
I made the move to Ligue 1, managing PSG and its like a whole different game. The talent is spread out a lot more evenly, every roster having a few internationals and potential stars. You can get solid players at reasonable prices and the playing level is high enough that you don't have to pull your hair out watching your team making dumb mistakes routinely. I definitely recommend this for people playing FM that are tired of always trying to play catch up in the more prestigious leagues and just watching the talent gap get wider and wider as the game goes on.
Agreed, the games I play where I'm in France starting at whatever level are the ones I usually enjoy the most. Haven't done one in FM08 yet, but once I'm sick of my current game (playing with two managers, one with Liverpool and one with SYdney) France will be my next stop. In previous versions I've had particularly enjoyable games with Lorient.
