I've been thinking about how monotonous the team talk options are for some time now - sometimes they're just really inappropriate e.g. 'Why can't you play like this in every match?' when you were heavy favs, didn't play that well and only won 1-0 or 2-0.
After reading the great suggestions for possible changes to the fan confidence section in another topic, I thought maybe we could boot about ideas for team talk revamp here?
I was at such a stage of boredom with FM08 I borrowed the new CM. I'm certainly not jumping ship. The game was insanely slow on my mid spec computer and hugely unrealistic i.e. overrated player stats, clunking match day experience, rubbish transfer system, Rangers having 25million to spend (Yeah. Right.)
One thing I was really impressed with though was the team talk selection. I only played a handful of friendlies and got fed up with everything else but I enjoyed the huge variety of comments to make to the players - it was different everytime. And most positive comments made to individual players during the match resulted in a news item saying how grateful they were for my support. I thought this was a great way to build up team spirit and relationships which was much more tangible that the FM player interaction and team talk options (which pretty much feel like they've hardly changed the past few years.)
I think man management is an important part of the game and should be improved upon hugely. How can you man manage effectively when you can only say three different things to your individual players before a match and a handful of media comments off the pitch (most which likely **** them off)?
[As an aside - Ever since the early champ mans I've always wanted to give that late substitute a bit of a boost to win that cup final in the dying seconds with some words as he's running on the pitch. Think there's any hope of a player talk for substitutions?]
Anyway, the point was has anyone been thinking along the same lines of boredom re:team talks and does anyone have any suggestions?
If we were talking about a complete rewrite, I'd rather see the "right" "wrong" nature of it done away with, at least for most team talks.
If I were designing it from scratch, most team talks would have SOME positive effect.
What you impact might differ: one team-talk might give a slight increase to Morale; another might give a slight increase to Work Rate; another might give a slight increase to Determination; you might even be able to exhort your players to make better Decisions.
It would feel a lot less like "Guess the right team talk" and a lot more like "What area do my team need to focus on in the second half .."
This has been discussed often and there is no doubt in my mind that this is an area of the game that needs to be taken to the next level. It is a nice feature and does have some major effects ( sometimes too much effect ) but I struggle to accept that the game chosses which options are available for the manager. Expand the options and let us choose which one is appropriate.
