I have been reading a lot of threads about the shots/goal ratios. One thing keeps coming up is that tempo has something to do with it. Why?
What has tempo got to do with good strikers missing sitters or shooting at the GK? If this is true it suggests it is time for a revamp of the tactics, perhaps making them more player specific and removing sliders (replacing them with more understandable instructions) to make the system more intuative and realistic.
This is one area of the otherwise solid game that really annoys me. The click of a slider is the difference between an easy win or a crushing defeat, is it realistic to tell a team to play a tempo of 5 or 7? Tempo should effect the speed a team passes the ball and press the opposition not how quickly the strikers take a shot, if that is really what is going on then it's frankly insane. Arsenal play high tempo football, you don't see Eduardo rushing shots and firing at the GK or missing from 3 yards. The team instructions ruin many aspects of the tactics system imho and nullify some of the specific player instructions. That is why one of my biggest requests would be to have the option to disable certain team insructions and add more player instructions, such as being able to tell a player to target an opposition player with a bad temper or 'shoot on site' when they get a good sight of goal (and not have this influenced by other factors such as tempo, run with ball etc) when facing a novice keeper.
I also find it very strange the way that a winning tactic seems to suddenly be 'cracked' by the AI and you go from winning with ease to barely being able to score a goal. It's not just the amazing speed that this occurs that is weird, it seems a few simple clicks can reverse the sudden decline. Not very realistic IMO.
Another area that detracts from the overall quality of the game is the FRED system, why does it produce players with such low CA who develop so slowly? In particular there are very few good full backs later in the game and hardly any players who have balanced stats. Also, the valuations in terms of price and the AI's judgement of the best young players are far lower than the players they are intended to replace. It makes long term games very frustrating as the game world loses all sense of realism when even big teams fail to offer deals to future stars (even when they are in their late teens/20s) or let them go for next to nothing.
Tempo doesn't matter. In a previous game i plaued fast tempo and my strikers missed a lot
In this game i play slow tempo and it doesn't make a **** of difference:
best solution is to tone down the amount of shots per game WITHOUT comprimising, and indeed improving, 1-on-1 goals. no team irl get 30+ shots every other game, let alone without winning the match.
