Maybe change to a higher resolution first on your laptop?

Hmm, well I don't use Vista, so I'm a bit clueless too.
But try right-clicking anywhere on your blank screen. Go to :> properties > settings > then make your screen resolution higher.
Not sure if this will help, but can't hurt to try.

Ahh. Well since I don't use a laptop, or Vista, I think I'll leave this to somebody with more knowledge! Good luck

i assume starting the game up, going into "preferences, then display and sound settings" and un-checking full-screen mode wont work??

try this, in your shortcut put this...

"CProgram Files\Sports Interactive\Football Manager 2008\fm.exe" -small_screen -windowed

obviosuly change the file location if youve installed it elsewhere.
