Its been confirmed that you will be able to continue any games that you start with the demo. Remember that the games were now playing are just quickstarts which are really just saved games. Personally, I think it will be better to start a new game to get all the benifits of the new features. I might be wrong but I would imagine that there was something left out of the demo that will be in the full game to reduce download size.

I would want to start a new game when retail comes out if for no other reason than to play with more than 1 league running.

Yes it is possible. Just copy the save file over once you have installed the new game.
