What can be done to make the players pass and move with lots of fluidity in the player movement, much like Man U and Arsenal do irl?
I've noticed that despite making some tactical adjustments, I cannot seem to make my players move around with more freedom. the formations and player runs appear to be quite formulaic, whereas teams like Man U and Arsenal pass and move the ball with pace and movement, using lots of one-twos.
First of all you need to ensure your players are capable of playing pass and move football of a good standard. Basically for this to be effective you need a worldclass side. Not any team can play like this. Mental stats are most effective for this too imo.
Also for one twos, you need to adopt a short passing game.

Sorry, I should have said, I'm playing as Man Utd, so I have the players in midfield/attack to play this way.
I play short passing at the mo, except with Scholes Carrick and Rooney who are mixed. does tempo and width affect this?

Just cos your Man U though, doesn't mean all the players will be capable of this.
For it to work best I tend to use 2-4 short passing, 4 tempo, and use a normal or narrow width. As you need players close together for the one two's.
Would narrowing the formation compromise my teams ability to get behind full backs. alot of my goals come from full backs and wingers crossing into the box and from my strikers moving into wide areas to beat opposition full backs. is there any way to reconcile the two?
In this respect, the game is absolutely ridiculous and absurd.
Decent pass and move football is played by some teams at all levels, just not at the same tempo or with the same fluency as the top sides. Just because your team hasn't got world class players, doesn't mean you should be restricted to lumping it. Not by a long shot.
