I have posted rants against FM07 in the past. I couldnt string two passes together never mind score. Low point was my first attempt at FM7 when I unbelievably took my beloved Newcastle down. I honestly couldnt get the defenders to defend, midfield to pass to a team mate or forwards to score.
I was playing the game as I has done on previous versions 05 and 06 pointing and clicking to match days with not much in between other than sorting training schedules. Despite my lackadaisical mangerial attitude I still had an entry in the managers Hall of fame on 05 and 06.
I reinstalled FM07 about 6 weeks ago and started at Lincoln. I quit in game time January 07 for the same old reasons. I was getting so frustrated after getting them to third they slipped to 10th, the AI was setting tactics and style I could only dream about.
But now heres the rub. Wolves came offering and they have a ridiculously low trsfr budget but I was installed at boss at Molineux. Struggled again but just escaped relegation by a couple of points.
I had tried so many tactics all of them my own but none worked until finally I hit on something with about 6 games to go where I was unbeaten which led the press to give me the monicker The Tinkerman and comment he finally gets his tactics right.
I got 2 grand in transfer kitty into the new season (lol) and have changed tactics again. The tactic that kept me up stuck me back down again in the new season!
Point of this post is keep trying and it will come. If you have the slightest understanding of real football use it in the game, use every option the game has got, look at the matches your'e playing and change tactics every few minutes if you have to, honestly it has worked for me, I'm now sitting pretty 5th in Championship in December. I have signed 3 young loanees from Arsenal Man U and Chelsea who have been great and got the best out of full timers who were previously crap.
Thanks to other threads which have told me to stop Central AM's making lots of forward runs Thats really helped as it makes them ping the ball into space in front of them.
Biggest tip I can give is look at who your playing and there strenghts and weaknesses and pick your side accordingly. Sounds simple but it works, also get into individual players heads, praise that winger who's unstoppable, it might just make him play rubbish against your lot!
Its not the bible this post, I did get possed by Bolton 6-1 four games ago but the front two Davies and Anelka were awesome. Since them I've moved mentality sliders down and beat Preston Derby and Birmingham impressivley who are no slouches. Preston dropped Neil Mellor cos I got into his AI head.
Keep on trying my friends. this game will work and I'm enjoying it as much if not more now...one thing needs to be fixed still.
GET THE CF WHOS STAYING FORWARD AT OPPOS SET PIECES STAND IN CENTRE CIRCLE NOT OUT WIDE..THATS NOT THE SHORTEST ROUTE TO GOAL
