Tactics & Training Tips

It's no use having a squad full of star players without a decent way for them to play their football.

Default Closing down the goalkeeper

Is there any way of doing this? On occasions I would like to have one of my attackers putting pressure on the 'keeper when he receives backpasses or when he brings the ball out of his area but I can't seem to find an instruction that works suitably.

Playing a 4-1-2-1-2 I have assigned one of my strikers to maximum closing down, but when the opposition goalkeeper gets the ball the lad still just stands in his normal position waiting for play to resume. The only other way I can think of is to assign the striker to man-mark the goalkeeper, but doing this just makes him run around like a muppet - when I have the ball he is in a normal position but when the opponents have the ball he will leg it towards their gk. Not only edoes this not have the desired effect but it also knackers the poor player quickly.

Any thoughts?

Default

go to opposition instructions before the game, click on their goalkeeper and chose closing down:always. This should do it.

In my opinion, it's not exactly "closing down" that is the issue, more "positional awareness" of players closing down if that makes sense.
