Tactics & Training Tips

It's no use having a squad full of star players without a decent way for them to play their football.

Well i belive that the are two "schools" regarding the closing down on the defenders. I personaly have the closing down on the central defenders low, one on 3-4 and another on 5-6. By playing this way they don't put pressure on the players high up the pitch and dont risk to get caught out of position. Reason why they isnt on the same settings is that i want one of them to close down first and the other to provide cover if he loose the ball or miss the tackle. I have been successful with this, but it perhaps is because of me using a high closing down dmc infront of them as protection.

The other way of having high closing down central defenders i havent tried too much to give it a fair description. Perhaps someone else can fill me in on this one?

But it all depends on if you want to defend high up tha pitch or not, and if you play a aggressive defence or more of a stand off defence.

Hoped this helped you in some way. /Zenith

I have my central defenders closing down of 10 or 15. Maybe other 10 and other 15.

What do you belive the difference with having them so high compared to low closing down. What do you belive that the advantage and disadvatage are?

Its not much of a help if all ppl just post their settings without atleast saying what the difference is and why you at sometimes want to use a higher closing down and at other times use a low closing down. ;-)

Personally I have them on low closing down the same as zenith, to keep them in position is the priority. Also, I use a deeper defensive with my teams aswell.

However, some people like to have their CB's closing down high, which also means they will have a high defensice line. The idea here being that you force your opponents back and close down space in midfield areas. So basically winning the ball higher up and being more agressive.

The one massive disadvantage that can occur with this is the high d-line means there will be a lot of space in behind the defence - leaving yourself open to the ball over the top (which is very effective if they oppsition have pacey strikers.

High closing down means your defenders will try and make a tackle - good if they are succesful, bad if the attacker skips past them leaving them stranded.

Low closing down means your defenders will shadow the attackers trying to make it difficult for the attacker to get off a clear shot, through ball or run past them
