Tactic creation, counter attack, style and Pro Evolution 6
No doubt the increase in the AI on this game has made tactic creation a lot more complex. I found one very good way of making tactics, I play pro evo a lot, and most of the time I play 4-3-3 (if the team has the players to do so), now I know FM is more in depth but most is similar, where the differences tend to be your own on the park e.g. do you run around players with Lampard or shoot on sight, Cross regularly from the byline with Darren Fletcher or get him to play the ball around short and cross from deep?
It works the best with working out closing down, individual instructions, especially the rare-often options. One mistake I always made was setting a set formation for my best eleven and only changing the individual instructions if I made a change during the match, not before it, e.g. rest Ronaldinho and replace him with Santi Exquerro (but keeping the high CF, free role on, through balls, running with ball often).
I know it soimds obvious but the main improvement in team performance I found was making sure every player I had on the pitch had instructions that suited them. Now going back to PES6 for a second, when I'm Arsenal (where I play a narrow 4-4-2) I have Henry pulling out wide and running with the ball looking for a one-two with Cesc, RvP or Rosicky, now if I brought for example Lupoli on for him, I would change his and the teams' (to a lesser extent) style to suit the players on the pitch at that time, Walcott could do a similar job but would lose the ball more. Now in FM, bringing on a player on when 3-0 up with 15mins to go and keeping same instructions shouldn't result in that much of a change.
Also, I'm asking for some advice here, now I've always had success on FM playing a short, slow tempo game with counter attack, however, on these forums, they seem to make me doubt whether I should keep selecting it. The reason I'm not sure what it does exactly, my idea was that you set your team to play a certain way, slow or quick but with counter attack selected, the team (depending on anticipation, decisions, teamwork stats) would counter at will when they spotted a good oppurtunity. Like on FM, say I'm Chelsea playing 4-3-3, I never play direct and fast, I play it around slowly and patient, tempting the other team to press and lead to holes in defense, which is how I want my teams to play on FM. However, if we stop an attack and I spot a potential 3 on 3, I switch straight to counter attack, spraying a quick through ball to Cole or Robben to run a defense.
It seems that CA on FM could mean the team sit back and wait for these chances which is crap to play IMHO, with the Chelsea example stated above, would it be better playing a mixed style passing, still keeping slow tempo? The reason I say this is that a counter attack is never slow, so when selected they aren't going to be passing it around and backwards, however, they may still play it around in same passing style.
I know that Pro Evo and FM are different but they are the most realistic games of the genre, it's not like comparing FM to FIFA, it's as I said a comparison that can be seen, I'm a one tactic guy with one team, I buy the players to suit always have, like a skillful midfield, rock defence, deadly striker.
Please, voice me your opinions! My 1st post on the tactics forum

In the 5th paragraph, I meant to say, keep the same tempo with mixed passing, so that when we can counter. They don't knock the ball around short, they pick the best available pass based on decisions attributes, but at a slower tempo.

The teams in the swedish league (in FM) almost all play 4-4-2 defensive counter possession type games, and they seem to do allright. And they are a b*tch to play against since if you push them they counter, and if you go defensive it's a 0-0 or 1-0 to one of the teams. A lot of people say that offensive and counter attack don't match, but maybe you can get it to work, give it a try
