What marking do you use for your tatic? Do you change marking styles through out the season? I have had more success playing zonal marking myself.

If playing tight/man marking, surely it is not advisable to close down often, as that will always leave a man free for the ball carrier to pass to? At least this is what i have found.

Any tips/advice on offer?

In my opinion it's mainly down to the type of player your up against, which can determine whether a man mark, zonal or tight marking system works.

For instance I would be against man marking a very fast forward as he will usually peel off the defender thats marking him and use his acceleration/pace and leave him for dead. Closing down and zonal marking him would be the better option as this would give the defender more time to intercept the pass or tackle the player. Whereas against a slow target man man marking would work and closing down wouldn't.

This is mainly against forwards, midfielders can be different as man marking/tight marking (which I believe means he will pretty much follow him everywhere) an AMC with a DMC for example can work, as their attributes in the pace/acceleration can be very simular, thus giving the marking player a better chance of keeping up with the player. Mix that in with hard tackling and it can make the AMC less effective.
