Quality showing so far! Did you not get a UEFA Cup spot for winning the league cup when in the second division?

Can't speak for Guinness79, of course, but I've had trouble in the past not getting European slots after winning a Cup while not being in the top Division.
Of course, it could just be that Scotland's UEFA coefficient is so low that winning the League Cup doesn't qualify a team.

I have had the same problem in Belgium, after I had won the Cup while in 2nd div.

That's not the problem here, as the Scottish Cup winners (or runners up if they already had a CL place) went into the UEFA Cup.

Season 07/08

The close season sees us bring in but two players, both youth standouts in lower divisions, and both of whom featured at some point of the season. We also said goodbye to three youngsters who just weren't talented enough to keep around, or were just not able to compete for whatever reason.

Again, our odds were poor, but improved at 50-1, though our survival appeared to be a fluke to the bookies as opposed to being due to a competitive squad. Both the board and the supporters felt that way as well, and just asked to battle bravely against the drop.

The season saw us start slowly, just four points from our first five matches. We continued struggling until early November, where things started to pick up, and we went on a bit of a tear, only losing twice between then and early April. We again were guaranteed a top six finish, and were holding onto fourth place until Rangers snuck up from below and grabbed it on the final day. However, no complaints about a fifth place finish, as it meant Europe again.

Speaking of Europe, the Blue Toon were hoping to make their mark in the UEFA Cup. First round saw us draw Maccabi Haifa, with the first leg coming at Balmoor Stadium. Our debut was an impressive one, as we came out deserved 3-0 winners. The return leg proved frightful, however, as the Israelis threw everything they had at us. A 2-0 loss in Haifa, however, meant we progressed to the second round. There we drew Perugia, which likely meant a decent payday in the away leg. A 1-0 loss in Italy set us up well coming home. In the second leg, we took an early lead, and appeared to be hanging on for a date with extra time. However, in the 89th minute, some poor marking allowed Perguia to come away with the draw, allowing them to advance. No complaints about the performances overall, though.

This season's League Cup also proved successful, as wins over Ayr, Rangers (on penalties) and Celtic set us up for a final date with Hibs. A 1-1 scoreline after 90 minutes meant we went to extra time. However, in stoppage time we had a defender sent off. They took full advantage of the situation, knocking in 3 goals to come out 4-1 winners.

A month later, Peterhead would exact their revenge on Hibs, with a 2-1 win in the Scottish Cup semis, after beating Cowdenbeath (in a replay), Motherwell, and Ayr (again in a replay) en route to the semi-final matchup. The final saw the Blue Toon come out 2-0 winners over Ian's beloved Hearts, to bring home the Scottish Cup for the first time in Peterhead's history!

I, again, finished 2nd in Manager of the Year voting, we also had a runner up for Football Writer's Player of the Year (AM L I brought in last season), and 2nd runner up for Player's Player of the Year (D RC who's been with me since day one.) My star striker was also joint top scorer with a Danish forward who plays with Rangers.

In all, a pretty successful season. Have only just begun the new season, so updates will be around, but not as frequent as these.

Nah, it's a rule in Scotland that the winner of the CIS Insurance (League) Cup doesn't actually gain a UEFA Cup spot. It's stupid, but that's Scottish football for you!

Alright, thanks to being busier than a one legged man in an ass kicking contest, it's been two weeks since my last update, but here we go!

Season 08/09

Just two players joined in the close season, one on a free transfer, while three players, who languished in the reserves since I took over, left on frees.

Again, Skybet set our odds at 50-1 for the title, figuring mid-table would be the best we could hope for, and I figured that mid-table was achievable.

Well, the season saw us record our largest point total yet in the SPL, with a record of 18-11-9 for 65 points. One bonus saw us with a record of 5-2-1 against the Old Firm, which helped us to a 2nd placed finish, just 2 points behind Dundee United of all clubs. So for the first time since the great Aberdeen side of the 80s, the Old Firm don't win the championship. The 2nd place finish will also see us into the Champions League. Whether it's the group stages or the 3rd qualifying round remains to be seen, but I think both 2nd and 3rd from last season went to the 2nd qualifying stage.

Well, that takes us to Peterhead's 2nd attempt at the UEFA Cup. Varteks of Croatia went down after a Peterhead win and draw. The second round draw comes up, and we head south of the border to........ Liverpool (). Well, the Blue Toon, after two 1-1 draws, dispatched Liverpool () 4-3 after 7 penalties. Hungarian side Ferencvaros were next up, dispatched with two one goal wins, and that took us to Piacenza, where a 3-0 home loss essentially ended our European hopes. A 1-1 draw in the reverse leg was a pretty good result in our last European match of the season.

The League Cup saw us out at the semi-finals this time, missing out on a chance to avenge the finals loss a year ago to Hibs, who retained the Cup.

Speaking of avenging losses, Peterhead were outdone 4-2 in the Scottish Cup final, just one match short of retaining a Cup ourselves.

Manager of the Year runner-up for myself for the third straight season, and again my star striker leads the SPL in goals, with 26. He also was runner-up for Football Writer's Player of the Year, and won a spot on the team of the year.

Well, let's hope we can make the group stages next season!
