Default newbie with a question

Hi,
Not new to CM/FM (been playing since CM2) but have decided to take on FM from the bottom.

started unemployed and took the exeter job (having read a few posts on here since then I realise that might be frowned upon, but as I dont have a lot of time on my hands at the mo I am only running english leagues conference and above, I will start a bigger game after my kitchen is finished (FM2009 maybe)).

not quite sure why I told you all that as its queries I want answered.

1. moving on to another club.
I believe that your not going to go from southend to man utd unless something amazing happens, so is a sensible upwards move a half or full division step? (i.e top half of conference to bottom half league two)

also if you stayed at a club a few seasons and where consistently successful (play-offs annually, good cup runs) would a larger step seem acceptable.

I know this is subjective and see we are encouraged to do as we fell is correct, I just wondered what the concensus was.

2. Scouting.
personally I totally agree with not using the player search screens, and follow the SWYCT and SYB guidelines, however:-

1. signing big name players
If for example some bloke quits WHU at the end of the season is it wrong to try to tempt them to my club?
I dont believe this is a case of cheating the system as its a known player where the information would be readily availble in the real world.

your thoughts?

2. Loaning players from clubs further up the ladder (where you are playing)

does anyone percieve issues with searching through a club from leagues above for potential loan targets or is this a no-no?
I kind of see this as the equivilent of phoning say another bloke at millwall and asking if he has anyone he fancies lending me....

again your opinions please.

thanks

Personally, I'd only make one division jump at a time, but if you consider two team's relative positions then the jump you are talking about would be OK.

Is it realistic? Does it happen often in real life? Ask yourself this question.

DONT NAME PLAYERS! There are obviously big named players in the world of footie everyone knows about. In these cases, it could be acceptable for a llama to not have their scouts find them. However, you should still get your scouts to assess them. Personally, I wouldn't consider the player you NAMED unless my scouts found him. But that's me...

DONT NAME PLAYERS!!!

Again, it depends on the player. I wouldn't consider loaning anybody unless my scouts found him. Loaning is one of those "grey" areas.

My personal thoughts. (ignoring the fact that all these issues have been discussed to death recently) Seeing as I am in a good mood today.

1. I tend not to move more than 1 division up at a time although a team at the bottom of the division 2 leagues above would be acceptable to me.

2. News items are fair game to me. (I would though listen to my assistant about the sensibility of signing such a player). For a lesser known player in a news item, I would scout them.

3. I do not seach clubs randomely for loanees. I do look at clubs who I play in the friendlies to see if any of their players are for loan. I also send scouts with specific instructions which may pick up possible loanees.

GL and enjoy your game

As you have noted, if you have to ask........
