It just happens, over time, depending on many factors.

hope that answers your question

Personally I have been promoted from Scottish 3rd to 1st division and I am getting hammered left right and centre because although everyone at the club is full time I am still a semi pro club and cant even attract players from lesser divisions.

I need to go pro!!!

I don't know about FM-I'm too rubbish to worry about it at the moment- but in CMs past, I've had it happen and could never really tell why. As far as I can tell it has nothing to do with success, or whether you have no players on part-time contracts. There appears to be some mystery critical mass figure that is reached when all of a sudden you are now a pro club.

I got promotion from conference south after my 3rd season. After 1 season where I finished lower-mid table I was turned pro

All of a sudden I had players on a 3 year contract of 100-200 who were unhappy and wanted 1500+ which was double what the board were willing to pay. Greedy Ba%^$%ds, I took them off the dole and they now think they are superstars.

It will most likely be when the club rep reaches a certain point?

You'd think so, but in 03/04 I managed Montrose with its starting National reputation and was still semi-pro until some point 10 years into the game and some modest success had passed. It's a mighty mystery
