Fair point but unless a scout follows the player around 24/7 basically befriending him or scouting him over a period of time you will not learn his personality.

Well I certainly don't want the game to give away the store, but scouts do hear things, and they talk to other scouts and contacts in the business. They don't work in a vacuum. If a guy has a habit of missing training, particularly if he on a high profile club, I should think it would be known. Then the scout could qualify the report by adding that "so and so is a bit lax in his approach to the game" or something.

To make that realistic you would have to allow some bad personalities to slip through the net which could be hard to implement. Intersting idea though if it could be done.

Can I rant over the scout searchs here?! Don't bother to answer, I'll do it anyway!!!!
Fecking Morons!!!!
I send two scouts during all the offseason on search for League One standard players... I would even be happy to enroll some League 2 players if they managed to unearth some.
Instead, I'm overloaded with players who wouldn't make it a Conference National level...
Come on! It can't be that difficult to find some average lad! Specially a DMC as the one who was here last year has retired and the 17 yo one who has come through the youth system is too raw to play at this level... |

This wasn't meant to be a rant about Superkeepers, but since you brought it up...
I've had whole seasons (especially in Cm03-04) where the only thing standing in our way was the opposition GK. Literally. I can still remember being in the First Division with Enfield, and spending 3 unbelievably long seasons there because of Superkeepers - and the 100% Syndrom. When we finally managed to escape that hell, nothing could stop us - neither in the Premiership nor in Europe.
I dunno. Maybe it's my tactics - but how do i manage to create superkeepers every feckin' time, in every CM game i've played?
To quote Ian, from an older thread: "Superkeepers are an idiosyncracy of CM, if not an outright bug".
On a different note, i totally agree with Tim's points regarding hidden stats. I've always demanded that we, the human managers, be treated equally. The AI has all the info about players available, along with the tactical acumen. Mind you, i'm not saying that we should know everything about our players since day one. There's a hidden rating called "consistency", i believe. I reckon it should become visible not right away, but after a few months, or even years. We have the right to know everything about our players - even if it takes a while. And since scouting has been, is and will always be flawed...

Ah, my CM4 boycott allowed me to avoid this phenomena (by boycott, I mean I handed over £60, decided the game was horribly flawed and returned to 01/02).
On the subject of hidden stats, I've had a GK in my team who had 75% of his abilities (including handling) missing. I scouted him after I changed clubs to find out the obfuscated details.

Don't talk to me about fecking penalties.
The last shootout I won was back in 01/02. And I've been in a lot.
As for those Oedipal SuperKeepers, I've just had to give up a game after the start to my second season saw us scoring at a rate of: 1 goal every 27 shots on target as opposed to my opponents, who slotted them in at leisure past the snowman in my goal.

Penalty taking - requires a level of finishing, concentration, at least in my head.
Just the same way as I discovered that having people who are great at set peices taking corners doesn't necessarily mean they'll take good corners. They also need to be able to cross, etc.
Seems quite rare in this game that the outcome is just determined by a single stat.

Well, if you have a specific rating for penalties available, one would think it should be enough, right? Otherwise, what does it mean?
