Season 2 has just ended and
Terenggaru has just missed out on promotion to the Malaysian Super League by 3 points.
When I saw the squad, I thought we'd be playing up near the top as it was about as different to the rubbish I had at Kelantan as could be. I always choose a tactic based on the players at my disposal so the game doesn't get repetitive so this also meant a change from the tactic used at Kelantan.
After half the season (12 games) we were top of the league and unbeaten with 6 wins and 6 draws. It was very close, the defence had been solid (only 7 goals conceded) and the only worry was that despite beating some teams heavily, we were drawing too many matches 0-0. So I tinkered with the individual player instructions a bit and, as if by magic, we went on a bad run. So much so that at one point we were 7 points behind the leaders, all be it with a game in hand. We won that and beat the leaders N.Sembilan at home and after another couple of games we had closed to 3 points behind the now-leaders Jofor. In the penultimate game, we had to go to their place and despite (or because of?) mind games, we lost a close game 1-0. After that, we won our last game at home 3-0 and Jofor lost their last match. Three points behind...if we'd have drawn at Jofor, the title would have been ours on goal difference in front of Jofor and N.Sembilan who finished a point ahead of us :-(
The season has also been spent searching for new players but there is nothing available that is remotely interested in coming to Terenggaru. Looks like a simlar season next time around then...
