Well, after reading all the moans on here I set off with some trepidation as manager of Harrogate Town. I'm only a few games into the season, but so far I'm having reasonable success from 1 on 1 situations and I've scored with 2 flick on headers from near post corners. Not what I expected after some of the threads on here about peopel scoring 1 goal in 1500 attempts or whatever. In fact, I find my continentally renowned £10m strikers in my old FM2007 save miss far more 1 on 1s!
Unfortunately finding fault has become so ingrained in the culture around here that a lot of people have forgotten to enjoy the good bits.
It's like having hundreds of hypocondriacs all in the same place. One finds a problem then everyone else is convinced they have the same thing. It's then very difficult to work out the real extent of any problems.
Agree with Polegate...I find this version very realistic. I have actually seen some of my strikers win 1 on 1, although they do miss more than they score (but isn't that also the case IRL for average players?)
Very realistic? Sorry to go down the well-trodden path, but having matches with 30-40 total shots (both sides together) regularly is horribly unrealistic. This match engine IS more realistic than all previous ones by nature, but there is at least one major flaw that kind of obliterates the realism. It must be some imbalance that lets one on ones happen too much. If they work that out, its realism will be unprecedented. Until then however, I'm afraid I can't agree.
Luca Toni currently has 20 goals in 21 starts for me so i'm very pleased with that and seems a bit high but he's on top form and Klose hasn't fired on all cylinders yet so it evens itself out.
If he scored with all the opportunities he had i'd get fed up and throw it in the CM4 - CM03/04 far too easy pile.
I think Ainu does have a point but I think that as a mjority of players use only the highlights view, if they limited the chances there would be too many games with few highlights and people would get bored.
IMO the near post misses and one on ones lost are what makes the game so exciting. I love the fact that it gets me angry and I literally jump out of my chair when a striker misses an easy chance. It's just like real football and I wouldn't have it any other way.
I seem to have set up my latest game with too many leagues or too many players included because it is woefully slow and I got fed up just 2 games into the season. No doubt I'll return tonight though. The football was so unbelievably bad that I almost quit because of that, but since I'm managing Whitley Bay with a team of mostly teenagers in the Blue Square North the lack of marking, tackling, awareness, finishing, closing down, moving faster than your average Ent, etc, etc is to be expected so I can't comment on the match engine yet!
Granted there are several problems to be tuned with the impending patch (especially the registration issues) but contrary to 07 I feel what I'm doing on the tactical side reflects itself on the match engine.

then maybe you shouls stop markrting this game as the most realistic football management game...people will stop complaining, knowing that this game is a sim
