OK, so I have owned FM 08 for a good 2/3 months. A regular FM buyer and player (even back to the golden days of CM) but I am finding this one the hardest to get to grips with.

I have started with various clubs, can do well in preseason, but the league starts and my players appear to forget how to play football! I am trying to think of it as a blip at the start of season, but I struggle to get through this blip without starting again. Am I alone? Is this common? Am I just too old to get to grips with the new game (I am only 26 so hopefully not).

Any thoughts welcome!!

You havent given any details for anyone to give specific advice so go to the Tactics forum and read the FAQ/Tips thread and perhaps some of the better tactical threads

As i said. This is not a comlaint... I don't mind the toughness or challenge of the game. I was just wondering if others had found the same? Or if they had not.

yes i understand what you mean, and my tactics become obsolete suddenly from 1 game to another, gets irritating, but i prefer a challenge to something i can wipe the floor with as in the old football manager games

Well tactics in this game are tough because it seems as though players have to learn your style for quite some time (about a season) before they really get it. After 5 seasons, I can really play a 4-4-2, 4-3-2-1, 4-2-3-1, or a 4-1-2-1-2 and be fine, but I switch my playing sytle often in each match. You really are best off to stick around a season or two with a team and you will have a much better understanding of the game.

The best idea is get one tactic and stick with it, use the same players too if possible.

Other than that, download a tactic such as B1GD and play it. I had great results from the short time I used that tactic. Use it and learn how it works. Might help, might not
