Making a background in Photoshop is so very similar to using Paintshop Pro

What part did you not understand?

taz i understood the background part. but when i arrived in the infobar section, i coloured it and did exactly as you said but when i opened the game the left and right parts appeared as blue lines while in reality i made them red, and the middle part did not appear at all.

You need to set the "Opacity" to less than 95

If you scroll down the manual to the Setting Opacity section you will see how to set it and then save your image

As I am making my first skin and trial and error with it I have set all my Opacity ratings to 90

ok... so you did everything in this order below..

Coloured the image..
set the opacity to 90%
then saved the image...

are you colouring one of my templates or the image straight out of your FM folder?

The info bar is set into 3 sections...

left, middle and right. Teh guide lines in the template show you where the sections are.
When you open the template in Photoshop you will see it has 3 layers..

Coloured by clicking on Layer 1 and colouring that section. Then clicking on layer 2 and colouring that sections and then clicking on layer 3 and coloruing that section.

If you go into this directory
CProgram Files\Sports Interactive\Football Manager 2006\data\graphics\navigation and find the 3 images called infobar_right, infobar_middle and infobar_left and drag all three into your Photoshop It will open them as well.

Layer 1 (which is the right hand side of the info bar) you will need to select again and click SELECT ALL. (This will select just this layer)

Now click on the same section in the original image (infobar_right) and then click EDIT and PASTE and then slign the image up correctly with the original.
Once you have aligned it up click on the original layer (layer 1) and right click then DELETE LAYER. This will delete the original grey layer and leave you with your coloured image

Now set the Opacity to 90% and save the image..

I know this is a long way around things but I shall look at re-writing the guide to explain this all a little clearer (and yes Ter I shall learn Image Splicing ASAP!!)
