If you shuffle back and defend, then you're keeping the ball exactly where they want it - where the 4 offensive men are.

Just get the players to boot the ball up to your midfield/attackers and apply the pressure at there weak points (ie their defence)

Its quite fun if you have a team that is capable of soaking up huge amounts of pressure, like Chelsea.

Doesnt matter whether its Man U away, just sit back, men behind the ball and let them go crazy. Through balls get intercepted, crosses are headed away, they'd be lucky if they get through.

In the meantime you kill them on the counter, thats even more fun

Pack out the midfield, go 4-5-1 and don't let them get the ball foward

I play defensive with counter attack on. I also put 3 cms in and a CDM. from what i remember i hardly concede goals and sometimes even nick another

i had terrible trouble against this but have since developed a tactic that is excellent against it, i cant remember the last time i conceded a goal against it now.

I usually play minimal fuss v4 tweaked to my own settings. As soon as the opposition go to 424

- drop a defensive midfield player into the middle of the defence
-take off your fullback barrows
-take off any man marking
- drop your defensive line to deep
- no offside trap
-push your wingers into central midfield and take off their farrows
- change the three midfielders mentality to normal
- make sure your mentality is lower than normal
- passing and tempo to slow short

And bobs your uncle. If u follow this i hope you have success with this, it has worked with various teams in differnt leagues and divisions
and i even nick the occasional goal but that is not the aim of this tactic - just to nullify the opposition.

Cheers people for your comments and ideas! pretty much most of them have come up trumps for me. I have tried using this tactic against the opposition when i am behind or need a win with great success.

I have found that slowing the game down works alot of the time and does frustrate the opposition into making stupid fouls and mistakes.

Wouldn't that make the team vulnerable to Long Passes? I mean, if half the team is on this side of the field, a few Long Passes should scare them off like flies back to their side, I think.
