Okay, I know people will ask 'what are your team/player instructions?' before they will give advice.

But surely there are some settings that could be applied to any formation or team, however good or bad, that can help to increase the number of chances created?

Or is this just not the case? I'm really desparate for help on this.

Thing is ...its not the number of chances you create, but the number of good chances you make.

There are several ways of doing this...one way is to create loads of movement down the flanks with a variety of attacks.


If playing a 442...I've since stopped using this formation, but I will use it as an example, what I would do is this:

High closing down for my forward line...this is a standard thing for all formations, why? If the AI loses the ball in their half, the chances that they will leave me open for a quick break on goal is high especially if I'm using a 3 man strike force or a pacey attack.

Another thing I like to do is to have one striker doing runs down the byeline and the other just playing off the shoulder of the last defender...to do this set RWB for one striker...tell him to cross ball and make FWR runs...the other player needs good finishing anticipation, pace. Depending on your style of play, this could be a targetman or a pacey striker...both need to be set up differently.

Now there are 2 ways to get goals...actually there are 3..there is a high probability that the left pacey striker will get loads of freekicks and corners as well...so the variety has gone up...to make things more interesting, I make my fullbacks do direct passing.

I've noticed a lot of people not doing this, cos its risky, personally I think you need to take risks sometime, but you need to make sure that the sheer variety of chances mitigates this risk. When the fullback does direct passing, there is a very high chance he will look for the strikers making the deep runs.

This works beautifully in a 3 man formation. When do you know this works? Well, personally I'd be delighted if i only had 8 shots at goal in total had 4 on target and scored 3 goals. I usually don't pay much attention to total shots...what I pay a lot of attention to is the Goals/SOT ratio. I am always aiming for 80%. When I have achieved this I know I can go into games defend like crazy and still be able to win with only 3 shots on goal, cos odds are I will score at least 1-2 goals.

Nice reply rashidi1, btw since you've abandoned 4-4-2 what is you style of choice now? I'm struggling at carpe sides with 4-3-3 and 3-4-3 is pretty much out of the picture...

One thing I do when I'm down and need a goal is to pull my best jumper header from defence (if tied go for the one with the best technique) and putt him in the middle of the two strikers or playing beside your lone striker.
have him be the target man and push the long balls almost always nets me 1 or 2 chances at the end of a game (just remember run with ball is usually not a good option for a DC)
These chances may be utter carpe or they will be your prefered striker running one on one with their keeper and putting it in the stands for that utter feeling of desperation

This is heavily utilised in the swedish leagues and from were I got the "idea"

I've noticed setting ML and MR to man-marking sometimes increases their involvement. Has this worked for anyone else?

Also, can 2 small strikers in a 442 work?
