It's no use having a squad full of star players without a decent way for them to play their football.

Default Quick question about goal draught

I've done some searching, but couldn't find anything "useful" (maybe I didn't search thoroughly enough - they really should give each FM game a separate category).

Anyway, yesterday I played a match which I controlled totally - shot stats were: 22 shots, 5 on goal, and my opponent had 3 shots, 1 on goal. The result: 1-1 - my team went behind 10 minutes from time, but managed to score 5 minutes later. The "funny" thing is that my players had good chances to score - more than a third of the shots where taken from inside the box, but as you can tell by the stats, only a select few actually hit the target.

What I'd like to know is if I earlier in the match had changed team mentality to be more/less attacking (it was 2 or 3 notches above normal), would my attackers have had more luck in hitting the goal, or was it just a case of seriously bad luck? My players usually hit the target at least on half of their chances, although lately my opponents seem to play a bit more defensively, and if that's the reason I can't score all of a sudden, I need to find a solution because I'd certainly hate to see that happen again.

Does it happen every match? If it does, then it isn't bad luck You had 22 shots and more than a third were taken inside the box, which means you probably had 7-8 shots inside the box? From 7-8 shots, you had 5 on target. Nothing wrong with it really. What I would say is you should have more than a third of your shots taken inside the box, because it is easier for keepers to save long shots.

Thx for the reply - I'm sorry if I didn't explain it properly - out of the 5 shots hitting goal, about 3 was long range shots. I was rather amazed to see the close range shots go either far over or way wide.

I'm trying to develop a certain tactic where I usually have 5 players getting the chances: 1 dm, 2 amc and 2 fw, and reading the bible didn't really help me since the suggestions mostly involved resting a player or trying changing the passing etc...I'm thinking it may be a mentality problem, so I'm going to check that out when I get home. I was just wondering if anyone had some advice

On second thought - the mentality settings shouldn't matter much when it comes to hitting or missing the goal, should they? All my players are on superb morale, so that's not the problem either...ah well...And we're talking about players with 17+ finishing and 15+ composure (except for the defensive midfielder), so they're fairly competent. I guess I'm just annoyed that I drew that game...

This happens to me all the time, take tons of shots and like 1 or 2 goals a game. Forwards with finishing of 17 and nothing.

Im playing with Barca and Eto'o is a bottler, he rarely hits the target and messes up 1 on 1s.
Gudjohnsen is my only reliable attack minded player (Messi doesnt count, out for 4 months with broken foot).
