The Away formation doesn't seem to work at all, lesser teams I take the lead and end up drawing, bigger teams absolutely hammer me. You said you didn't change the tactics at all no matter what formations you play against?
Considering the inevitable self destruction that January brings in this game I'm not hoping for much of an improvement, even with Dyer coming back.
| To be honest there's so many variables that could cause something like that to happen, the training, teamtalks, injuries, pure luck even.
Nelly's post is a prime example of that.
I've never changed the shape no, I'm experimenting a bit at the minute against teams like Chelsea and Fulham recently who play the 41221 but still have not changed the overview of the tactic.

I do agree that the home tactic is a good tactic, I think I've only lost once playing with it, so there is no problem in that regard. The Away tactic however just isn't working whatsoever, my previous post was written in the aftermath of a 5-0 drubbing away to Hertha Berlin and 3-0 at Bolton, so I'm not really sure what the problem is. But as you said there are a lot of factors that could contribute to it, I'll stick with the tactic and see if there's a big turn around by the end of the season.
I'm sure my starting 11 have something to do with it too. Did either of you get NO money to strengthen when you started with Newcastle?
GK GIVEN
DL ARANZABAL (Emergency short term signing)
DR CARR
DC MOORE
DC RAMAGE
ML DUFF
MC PARKER
MC EMRE
MR MILNER/VARELA (On loan from Schalke)
FC MARTINS
FC BIANCHI (On loan from Schalke)
Taylor's out for 4 months, Dyer has just returned from injury. I've got 'Gooch coming in January but still little money to spend.
Anyways I'll keep you posted.

Perhaps you could send me a file of the Away tactic, maybe I just did it wrong myself.

good tactic
10 games so far, 8games won, 2 lost. with man utd.
just felt that the defence isn't as watertight as i'd like to be..
but really love the variety of chances that the team can score.

Hmm, I think it's time I tested Venom out with another team as I'm quite suprised by the comments about the defence being a little shakey.
Now, who has the squad for a 442 that's got a couple of solid, hard working central midfielders?

Reading look a good side for this tactic Buxton - plenty of pace on the wings and up front with Harper and Sidwell in the middle.

| Update;
Dont take me wrong.. i really like the way you set out your wingers... the fact that Ronaldo and Giggs on both flanks consistently give 8-10 ratings support that!
Because im a fan of 442 formations, i had prevously tried Crazy Gra's tactic which i found really really amazing (not trying to promote, but its one of the better tactics).. the defense was tighter and the front 2 were more lethal; which was the main way to score for his tactic.
In your tactic, i felt that EVERYbody in the team had a chance to score (apart from the gk of course).. but i also felt that the chances taken by the front two weren't as lethal as grazy gra's tactic...
and so, i fused his DC's instructions, and his left FC's instructions with your tactic.. and found it very very successful for my team. Both away and at home (Note. i didnt change any team instructions downloaded from you). I conceded just the 6 goals in 17 (in the premiership) games atm and won all my matches so far...
so yeah. love the good work you have done  and thnx! |

oh, and btw, i encourage oppositional instructions when playing against stronger opponents such as rivals or top clubs. i find that 70% of the time i use these instructions, my team performs better... but i don't use them everytime except playing top clubs.
My instructions;
GK - closing down; always
DCs - closing down; always (tackling; hard optional)
DR/DLs - none (show onto foot; weaker optional + tacklng; hard optional + closing down; always optional)
MCs - tackling; hard
MR/MLs - show onto foot; weaker
FC - tackling; hard
closing down on DCs and Gks to take opportunity of any errors they could make. this is should be better if they are low in concentration or composure..

First of all, thanks to buxton for posting a tactic for the rest of us to be inspired by.
I tried this for a good run with Tottenham. 1½ seasons in, it still hasn't really clicked.
Except for a great run in the first 10 games or so, it has been leaking goals at quite an impressive rate since then, no matter how I tweak it.
I have woodgate, king and dawson in central defense, and zokora and diarra (lyon) on CM's, and quite solid fullbacks (baines, chimbonda and the like).
Goals isnt a problem, since my wingers and strikers are godly, but the setup seems to leave too much space for the opponents in front of my area. Especially away (even with the tweaks bux mentioned), it leaks alot. Counting over 1½ season I concede more than 1 goal/game on average. And even tho robbo may not be the most reliable keeper anymore, I still find that a bit too many.
I still very much like the concept though, and am still testing out tweaks and such, if I do strike gold, I will let you all know. Meanwhile it would be interesting to hear, if Buxton can make it work with other teams. If so I obviously have misunderstood something in composing my squad for it.
But again, kudos for posting a tactic, and for bringing back a bit of simplicity to the tactics, after various frameworks, mindsets and paradigmas seemed to have taken over. |
