Just wondering what your idea behind it was as most people tend to have it ticked don't they.

Well I just don't want to limit my way of playing to counter attacking, although I am a fan of the countering style my aim is to keep it as simple and have as much variety in play as possible, that's why it's not ticked.

For me counter attacking is not as effective as previous versions of the game. I have always used counter attacking, but in 2007 it seems the players will not attack unless there is a very open route to goal, so you end up keeping the ball and the oppurtunity is lost.

Have the full-backs at the posts for defensive free-kicks ever been helpfull? All theyre good for imo is to remove offside, which is suicide.
Also, I would put the wingers on rarely long shots. Even if they're very good at it, you dont want them to try it often due to the angle. If they're crap at it, you never want them to do it in the first place.

Also, have you tried tight man marking for the back four?
Tight marking for the centre-backs because otherwise they may be a step too late. Man marking (tight) for the full-backs because otherwise the backfour shifts too much to the side the ball is one. This leaves the other side of the pitch completely open which will be exploited by their winger.

| Fullbacks on the post have been helpful, I've only conceeded a single free kick since changing it to that.
I wouldn't want to put the wingers on rarely long shots because again, I don't want to take away that element from the attack, variety is the name of the game. The minimum amount of restrictions is what I'm aiming for.

Half way through the season with Newcastle and I'm in 13th position and knocked out of the cup by Sheff Wed. I don't know what I'm doing wrong, I'm playing the exact same tactics as you with the exact same team. The Away formation doesn't seem to work at all, lesser teams I take the lead and end up drawing, bigger teams absolutely hammer me. You said you didn't change the tactics at all no matter what formations you play against?
Considering the inevitable self destruction that January brings in this game I'm not hoping for much of an improvement, even with Dyer coming back.

To be honest this is a superb tactic. Ive used just the Home tactic for all games and it has been very succesful. I finished 4th the 1st season and 2nd following season with Newcastle. I am now currently at Roma where I have done back to back domestic doubles and reached the Champions league final 2 years on the trot.
I think its superb and solid at the back tho I tweaked the stikers as they were not scoring enough I felt. I used the tweaks Jep mentioned (turn off long shot, put run with ball up).
Those people stuggling I wonder, could you post your starting lineups and maybe explain what changes you make in a game with regards to been behind or keeping a lead in the last 20 mins.
I feel the majority of people just stick a tactic on play a load of games then whine because it has not worked for them when it needs drilling into them that does not work anymore in FM. You have to react to certain thing EG 4-2-4 or you goin drop a load of points over the season.
Congratualation on a superb and simple tactic Buxton.
