It's no use having a squad full of star players without a decent way for them to play their football.

Back 5 seems ok, only thing I have doubts about is the pace of the wide men. I've got Wright-Phillips and Dyer who are absolute lightening down the wings but saying that I often played Zoltan Gera out right and he did reasonably well although certainly didn't often get in behind as is the aim of the wide men.

I've got my best results up front from having Owen and Martins, who're both seem to make good runs off the ball. I never really played with slow strikers how fast is Streller?

15 acceleration, 14 on pace i think. But i thought he would be a safe buy because he's 6"5 aswell, so i thought it would be a decent compromise.

It wasn't even that we were just not finishing off our chances we were getting out played by the likes of QPR. I might try this with the Toon, to see if that helps.

I feel that with FM07 with it became more difficult & feel that too many tactics go into more depth than what is actually required. The straight forward approach has worked for me, so good post

This tactic works, but only as well as other good tactics it works fantasically for 2 or 3 games, i mean domination, but then every 5 games or so you get bashed. This game has become very very difficult tactically, you will spend forever trying to work out combinations, and playing different AI formations.

Never happened to me that, got a hiding at Arsenal when I put the young 'uns out in the league cup. The only pattern I've seen so far is it will keep clean sheets for about 4 or 5+ games in a row then for 2 or 3 matches it'll concede 1 or 2 then repeats the process again.

In terms of consistancy, that's easily the best I've had so far.

Buxton - First off congrats on creating an excellent tactic

Been testing this with a couple of sides (Sunderland - sorry Buxton - and Forest) and I must say its brilliant. I made a couple of small adjustments to the strikers by giving them instructions to rarely take long shots and run with the ball oftern, and it has been going from strength to strength.

It is solid defensively, the man marking centre backs dont let much through, and the fullbacks seem to cover round the back so well (which surprised me as they have instructions to often make forward runs and I thought they would get caught out of position a bit)

The midfield is set up so the 2 central players act as a duo rather than one getting forward and one getting back, and I much prefer that (playing like 2 pistons in a machine, getting back and forth in unison). The wide men are devastating if they have pace and score a number of goals (At Sunderland I have Tobias Hysen and Paul Anderson on loan from Liverpool, and they are dynamite) as well as getting a number of crosses into the area.

Up front the tweaks I have made see them take less pot shots at goal, and as such my shots on target percentage has increased. These 2 get the majority of chances, and once again, if you can add pace to your forward line and get them to run at defenders often you are onto a winner.

I am not normally a 4-4-2 fan, but If I was to set a 4-4-2 system up it would be like this. It reminds me of how Wigan played last season and Reading this season. Nice and simple yet devastatingly effective both offensively and defensively.

Once again thankyou Buxton, you have helped me to revive my love for FM 07

Good to hear mate

I may look at those instruction changes for a version 2

Specifically what changes did you make to the MC's?

No changes at all to the MC's - only changes were those for the two strikers. I just felt that the MC's worked well as a duo using the exact instructions you currently use.

btw I am only using the home version of your tactic
