I have Diouf, Foggia, Gardner and Steven Naismith (retrained as left mid) and Esparza as my wide men. Now i understand they aren't great. But my central midfielders should be able to boss most teams, i just cant get it right. I have Nolan, Kehl, Polanski and D'alassandro.
I've tried playing 5 in midfield, but it tends to leave Michael Owen on his own up front and he isnt really strong enough to be a lone striker.
Whats my best way of winning the midfield battle with these players? anyone?
I like a 4-1-3-2 formation with 3 MCs. Put the outside two (RMC/LMC) on darrows to AMR/AML and MC on a farrow. Set width to moderately wide (first few clicks of wide...experiment). With a good DMC and a centrally packed midfield you will be able to use FBs to get extra width (if you have good attacking FBs...attacking FBs are cheaper then top wingers!) This formation has worked for me in EVERY FM/CM game...although I have had trouble in Italy in FM07.
