Tactics & Training Tips

It's no use having a squad full of star players without a decent way for them to play their football.

Default Beating offside trap

I have seen many discussions in here on how to implement the offside trap in your team, but how about beating it?

Say youre playing a match and are getting caught offside too often, or you know beforehand you opponent plays offsides, what do you do?

Some say take off the "Forward Run" and have it on mixed. But You could try keeping forward Run on but lower the mentality to normal, so the forward makes runs from a bit deeper?

I'd be intrested in hearing any other ways around the oofside trap or rather the breaking of it

Get someone with the likes of Henry, with great pace, off the ball, technique and finishing. There are great deal of tactics posted. Do a search.

It will probably depend on the player as well - ie; someone with "likes to try and beat offside trap" as a preferred move will probably be caught offside more than someone without it.

Also, mental stats such as "off the ball" especially will come into it.

Lower mentality of strikers, as mentality affects positions of players on the pitch. A lower mentality means a less offensive position and so, won't be caught offside too often.

I did search and didnt find a thread on how to beat opponents offside trap.

I am not looking for a ready tactic as you suggested.

Anyone else has any insights?

Something that really works for against teams playing offsides is slow tempo, which makes sense really.

Patch 7.0.2 has changed the targetman to always be tightly marked, at least thats how it looks.

....... so put your targetman on a high attacking mentality (no forwardruns, throughballs mixed, no runs and no crosses)and a fast runner besides him with a slightly lower attacking mentality and forward runs often, works for me.

The fast runner needs agility, pace, composure and finishing (secondary needed stats .. acceleration and off the ball).

Your targetman needs strength, teamwork, bravery, jumping and heading.

.... if your targetman is tightly marked .. thats where the opponents defense line will be .. because he will automatically draw a defender to him .. the others will follow to form the line.
