It's no use having a squad full of star players without a decent way for them to play their football.

Default Defensive midfielder

I normally play a 4-4-2 diamond formation, but my DM allways seems to drop in line with my 2 central defenders and leaves loads of space between him and my AMC.

I want him to sit infront of my back 4 and give them some cover.

any tips?

Increase his mentality.

It may seem strange, but you might even have to increase it to attacking to get him into the position you want. It doesn't mean he will play attacking, it's just a positional tool.

The main reason this is happening is because your D/line s to high and he is getting dragged into it. Either drop your D/line or make him a mc with barrows if you are determined to use him as a DMC.

Not when you have the ball, which is when it's most important.

Don't adjust the defensive line. If you have a high defensive line strategy, you don't want to push it back just to accomodate a defensive midfielder. You need to push the defensive midfielder into position (via mentality).

MC with barrows isn't a clever idea either. He'll take up the DM position when you lose the ball, and will still end up in line with the defenders if your defensive line is high.

The first part should read "not when you don't have the ball"

cheers

adjusting the mentality seems to have worked

my DMC no longer gets between my center backs and he is making loads more interceptions in the 4 games ive played since changing his mentality.
