It is easiest to explain with an example:
if you are playing a team with a left winger who is only left footed, you'd want to put the "show onto" to right. This way, your defenders will try to face him in such a way as to get him on his weaker foot.
However, I always put it to "weaker foot" unless he is good with both feet. Then I have a look at where the player is playing and set it up from that.
