i am confused. i have been playing fm for years now and 'people' keeping mentioning how they have retrained players from one poition to another. e.g from cm to dmc. how is this done? or is it sinply playing a player in a position he is 'awkward' in until he becomes 'competent'??
There are two ways, but they're both the same thing really:
1) Click the player in question, then "Training" and then "Overview". In the top left corner there should be a drop-down menu called "New Position".
2) Click the training tab in the team menu, then "Players". Then select View -> Position Training, and then in the "New Position" column you can set which position to train for.
Please note that retraining a young player with high versatility and/or (Not sure really) Adaptability is much faster than retraining an old player, or a player lacking in those aspects. Likewise I'd imagine it's easier to train a M C into a M R than it would be to train a DC into a MR.
I don't know if playing the player in their new position, in addition to the training, makes any difference but it's something I'd like to know as well.
Sorry to hijack your thread like this but I can't seem to start anything myself here. I have a similar question, I've signed by far the most talented player on my Hereenveen team, this guy with tackling positioning pace strength anticipation and work rate all at the 19/20 mark, and with finishing and dribbling at 8. Guess what he fancies himself as?
I have 3 questions:
1) Is the aim of retraining someone to tweak their stats to make their strengths more suited to the new position, or does a player have to have a concept of himself as a centre back to play there? Basically, is outstripping my other centre backs in every single defensive area enough on it's own?
2) If he does need retraining, can a player be totally retrained? The guy doesn't even have a rating for his centre back ability to build on,while he's an awkward def mid which I can stick him to as a last resort.
3) Can someone confirm if playing him as centre back will help things?
Thanks!
it's frustrating as hell at the mo, all those orangey-red numbers make great eye candy, but he's useless. Though at least he makes it so attack really is our best form of defence I guess...
I'm playing again tonight, got a bit of a crunch season coming up, would really appreciate advice before then as I really don't have the games to experiment. Let Ajax get a few points up on you and it's curtains...Thanks.
he may not get good ratings at first, but as long as he gets the job done, it should be fine for you.
im speaking from experience as in FM06 i found kompany to be far more useful in playing as a lone striker and succeeded in retraining him there. took quite a while though.
