Ok, in my Forest game I've been pretty much loyal to a 4-2-4 Winger system since taking over.

However, this proved to be a key tactic to getting out of both league one and the championship.

Going into the prem I didn't change the squad too much (financially tied) and I hoped that this chosen formation would see me right.

Bad results inevitably followed so I got sucked into the whole chopping and changing routine.

with no end to the bad results I went back to my trusty 4-2-4 and used it come rain or shine and managed to avoid relegation... just!

2nd season in the prem and due to my chairman selling decent players from under me (a striker who only scored 6 in 23 apps to arsenal for £18m) I had funds to burn. After buying a few players my first team squad looks like this (using my 4-2-4 formation)

GK's - Isaksson / Kirkland

RD's - Jagielka / 2 x Regens with Potential
LD's - Salcido / Filipe / Michael Jansen
CD's - Salcido / Michael Jansen / Jagielka / Zat Knight / Michel Schmoller

CM's - Barton / Mikulski (top AMC regen from bayern) / Prutton / Ortega (youth)

AM's - Kapo / Pedro Leon / Johan Elmander

CF's - Yakubu / Miguel Navarro / Sagi

I would really appreciate it if someone could let me know of a more suitable formation to use with the players I have.

Whilst it is definitely cheating and i would suggest a last resort option for you. As I don't know much about your players stats, you could try FM Genie Scout as this will analyse your players stats and tell you which formation best fits them.

I would try playing a 4-5-1 with a DM, two CMs, and AMR/L. Give your wingers farrows. Then set your DM as playmaker and width as wide. choose a deep defensive line and counter-attack. Put your striker instructions for Run with ball and forward runs to full and long shots to medium. This formation worked for me when i got leyton orient to the premiership. The key point is that your DM should have good passing, tackling and positioning. Also allow him to Hold up ball.

Thanks for both replies.

I thought i'd move one of my existing CM's to the AMC position thereby leaving just one CM.

This seems to be working ok, but if not then i'll come back to this thread!

Click every standard formation, then go on team report. Add up the stars for each one, and use the formation that has the most overall stars.
