Default FM2007: Los Colchoneros - Club Atlético de Madrid

Club Atlético de Madrid is a Spanish football club based in Madrid. They currently play in the Primera División of La Liga. Their home stadium is the Vicente Calderón Stadium. Atlético are widely regarded as the third biggest club in Spain, although both Athletic Bilbao and Valencia CF would challenge this opinion. The club has won both La Liga and the Copa del Rey on nine occasions, including a double in 1996. They also won the European Cup Winners Cup in 1962 and were European Cup runners-up and Intercontinental Cup winners in 1974. Atlético play in red and white striped shirts and dark blue shorts.

During their history, the club has been known by a number of nicknames including los colchoneros or the mattresses due to their first team strips being the same colours as old fashioned mattresses. During the 1970s they became known as the los indios. This was allegedly due to the club signing several South American players after the restrictions on signing foreign players was lifted. Another theory suggests that the nickname developed because los indios were the traditional enemy of los blancos. The latter nickname refers to the club's city rival Real Madrid.

Can you take Atletico Madrid back to their glory days?
Can you beat your Madrid rivals?
Can you take the La Liga off Barcelona?

homer ive just started as at. madrid on weegie on fm 06, where do they need improvement, so far ive bought -

- Pazzini - to give Torres a real partner, not that mista dude lol.

- flamini - adds some strength to the midfield and was cheap, also hes young.

well where else do you think the squad needs improvement?

a new back up GK, Aguero is severly underated on Weegies so you might need another player there. A new RB as Seitaridis is a maniac, maybe a back up LM for Martin Petrov, thats about it i think.

I've just started a new game with Atletico. First impressions were that the starting squad is pretty good but was a little disspointed with a transfer budget of around £2m.

I devised an attacking 4-1-1-3-1 formation with the following personnel (right to left):

Leo Franco

Seitaridis
Pablo
Ze Castro
Pernia

Costinha (or Luccin)

Maniche (or Gabi)

Maxi Rodrigues (or Galleti)
Aguero (or Fellype Gabriel)
Petrov (or Gustavo Lopez)

Torres

Players in:

Gustavo Lopez from Celta - £1.2m
Fellype Gabriel from Flamengo - £2.6m
Vincent Enyeama from Bnei Yehuda - £85k
Ivan Hurtado from Al-Arabi - £475k
Diego Camacho - Free transfer
Hector Bueno from Albacete - £150k

Players out:

Antonio Lopez to Betis - £4m (min release fee )
Luis Perea to Paris - £3m

I've played five games in the league so far with four wins and one draw:

Espanyol (H) Won 4-1
Mallorca (A) Won 1-0
Sevilla (A) Drew 1-1
Athletic (H) Won 3-1
Valencia (A) Won 1-0

Very pleased with things so far but we'll see what happens when I go up against Real Madrid or Barca!
