I'm doing pretty well this season (My second season) with Villa using my two of my own tactics for away and easy games and RoT style tactic for home.
In terms of defence/keeper I bought in Taye Taiwo and Igor Akinee, I think the Villa defence is pretty solid with Cahill, Bouma, Olof, Hughes and Laursen all there.
I also have Marcelo and Eduard Ratinho retrained to Midfielders, although in one tactic I use them as Wingbacks with big farrows.
Currently first, but I know this will change soon as my sqaud lacks depth (I had to resort to free transfers for depth, got Maldini, Figo and Sherringham!!!!).

Nobody has mentioned the class of agbonlahor. I play a 4 5 1 with wingers. The wingers being agbonlahor and luke moore. midfield consists of barry petrov and donovan. centrebacks mellberg balde full backs samual and hughes with strickers being salas/angel or baros fighting it out for one postion. This has got me to third ion the league with ten games to go fa cup semi and league cup final.

Agbonlahor is a good fast player, but he has problems finishing for me. I give him alot of games along side Moore upfront but he finds it hard to net. Although he's finding that scoring touch more often now and also assisting well.
He's definately qaulity, but I think he'll be my first back up when I get enough money to buy in someone else.

I've just finished my first season as the mighty Villa, and I'm doing pretty well finishing 4th and qualifying for the CL. In my last few games I beat Chelsea (3-0) and Man Utd (2-0).
I started the season using a variation on the 4321 the M'ON was using, but I didn't find it worked well away from home. In my last few months of the season I used 442 diamond, with the wingers pushing up to FL/FR.
My tactics all about pace and counter attack. Agbonlahor, Baros, Moore are all damn fast, so I've ensured my team make the most of every break when defending set pieces.
Best signings so far... Jefferson Farfan (£5m)- absolutely awesome winger - second best young player of the year, and averages about 7.5
Another quality signing I made in January was Mauro Esposito. His pace compliments the rest of the team, and fits in great as a AMR or AMC. Also scored a couple of hat tricks playing SC.
The other great signing so far was Justin Hoyte. He's played every game of the season, hasn't been injured, and his stats are already world class. Playing with direct balls, he effectively pumps it up to the target man (Moore) to run on to.
Other good signings were Younnes Kaboul (very promising young DMC to cover for McCann)
In the summer so far I've signed Gourcuff for 5mil, and I'm trying to get a new DC whos better than Mellberg, Laursen or Ridgewell.
One final thing to say is how good Stuart Taylor is in goal. Sorensen was averaging about 6.7 after 12 games, so I stuck Taylor in goal for a few games. He turned out to be the best player in the league, averaging 7.8 over the rest of the season.
