Why are my scouts so useless?

I bought a MC last night. Nothing in his history to suggest any problems. Had him rescouted after he came up in a scout search. Great signing, they all said.

Why then, do my fans all seem to know he's a troublemaker and get all shirty when I sign him, worried he'll upset my team spirit?

Isn't that something my scouts are supposed to tell me? Useless feckers

That's a bad one, of xure, Julian. I once signed a guy and not only were our fans concerned but his old Club fans were delighted he'd left.

Julian - out of interest, is he a real player or a regen?

Scout reports on regens seemed to be more thorough in previous versions (i.e they'd let you know if the guy was an arse), not sure how it is on FM though.

IIRC he's an real player - 28 or 29 in 2011 or 12. I did get a report on a youngster that mentioned him to be considered lazy shortly afterwards, so I'd expect the same behaviour holds.

I don't so much mind that the scout report isn't that thorough here, but there's obviously a flag set for the guy that triggers the "fans worried" news item and ought to trigger a similar response in the scouting report. It should be both or none, IMHO.

And how do these fans know something that you don't? If the fans know he's a trouble maker, it should have been in the news, no? Sounds like some dodgy underhandedness by SI

If i understand correctly, "impertinent" comments on real players by scouts just don't happen, because Si could be prosecuted for defamation of character. But somehow, fans responses to signings manage to fly under the radar, so to speak?

I'd like to add a board rant, if I may.

Not content with reducing my wage budget by 200k, the board wait until I sell my top earner, and top scorer, and fan favourite striker, earning approximately 40k per week - as the final act of a tricky wage bill balancing act. Then, the second he walks out of the door, the board raise my potential wage bill. By 40k.
