I only play exclusively LLM so feel quite at home here. As you will all know, the financial boost you can get from a cup run or similar can be enormous. So I was delighted to scrape into the play-offs in my first season with a Conference North side. In the semi-final home leg we got our second highest attendance and a nice £11k boost to income. We then stormed the away leg 4-1 so Play Off final and Ewood Park here we come. Anyway my best MC lets me down big time in the final by getting sent off inside 10 minutes and we lose 2-1 in extra time. Oh well I think, not bad for a first season, at least we'll have a nice cash pile to build the team with. So imagine my surprise when I look at the finances and see that we received £0 for the final. I can understand not getting any income for an away leg but this is the biggest game of the season and I would expect a share of the gate receipts.
Has anyone else found this or are my expectations wrong?
IIRC in the football league playoffs an unofficial arrangement has been reached where the loser keeps all the receipts from the final as the victor gets the financial reward of promotion.
IRL all of the gate receipts from the semis and the final are shared equally between all four teams and there should be some prize money for the winners, but thats about all I think.
Not totally sure if this is true for the conference but in last years Div 2 playoffs Brighton got £400k prize money but were made to pay £35k for the fireworks used before and after at the game!
Norwich and Birmingham were the first to do that, but AFAIK it was just a one-off, unless other clubs since have decided it was a good idea and everyone is doing it now.
