Well, the Championship season for me at Burnley ended after 44 of the 46 games. With Burnley second and needing only a point for a return to the big time, I was offered the job at Leicester, 1 place higher than me in the pyramid with their promotion already guaranteed.

Reasons for taking the job? Well, partly a feeling that I'd taken Burnley as far as I could - my stars all wanted higher wage deals than the board would give, and Leicester had a couple of players that I genuinely felt I could build a European football candidate around. I refused Newcastle (Chairman ) but Leicester seemed like a place I could head for.

Naturally, however, they had a collection of overpaid players who wouldn't ever get into one of my teams - so there was some work to be done. An evaluation of the squad showed that I had some room in the wage bill (which was budgetted at 475k) and cash to spend (15 million) so I started to look at who I could bring in from my shortlist, and immediately placed adverts for all staff - none of the current incumbents appealled.

So I'm through to the new season - and I;ve completed some frantic spending - I've already shipped out 12, brought in 9 - but still have a pretty threadbare squad - desperately seeking a centre half, a striker (both of which I only have three of!), a GK and some squad depth. On the upside, I have a really solid midfield (if aging) which should keep me in the division. On the downside, my board took 200k off the wage allowance, and I'm down to a budget of 275k - which I'm miles over! So I'll need to rectify that.

So - 2013 / 2014:
Expectations - avoid the drop.
Wage budget - 275k.
Transfer budget - 15 million, 11 of which I've spent.
Personal goal - 10th to 15th spot.

Especially if they haven't been sanded. Splinters suck.

A shorter stay at Leicester than I originally imagined...

2014 / 2015

Well, my first Premier League season went much as planned:

Leicester finished 14th in the league, which is exactly where they where when I left. Looking back, I'm not sure I've made the right move - leaving a squad with some exceptional young talent behind, a majority of which I'd acquired for them, I've accepted a job at Man City. Not before winning the League Cup for Leicester with a 120th minute winner against Arsenal in the final, thereby guaranteeing European qualification for my old club - a fair way to leave them, I figured.

Bit of a soft spot meant that when City came knocking, I couldn't say no. A 55,000 seater stadium, a 500k per week wage bill and 15 million to spend on transfers was the upside. The downside was that once I'd pruned dead wood, I had 13 first team players and another 5 who could stay on in the reserves or under 18's.

Raiding my shortlist commenced, along with the hiring of numerous scouts to get out there and find me some players. I moved after deadline day, so the 15 million transfer budget stayed intact until 1st July, when I blew it apart. Fortunately, the board were feeling generous in the wage dept, so I was able to fill out my squad with numerous players available for nothing.

So, I have a hotch-potch, but it mostly means I have depth in each position. Which is good, as the board want me to match last season's mid-table finish, and the supporters are expecting Europe. Wish me luck!
