High morale from the previous season and a good spirit within the squad contributed to an excellent start to the new season as we made it as high up the table as third at one point.

However - a sudden downturn in the team's form that occurred as the game was patched meant we slumped down to 15th place in a very tight table before a host of tactical changes and a 9th placed finish overall. Cups were disappointing, the defence of the FA trophy ending on away goals in the semi-final and a loss away to Farnborough in the FA Cup second round.

Season 07/08 begins with just one new signing, a two-footed utility midfielder who looks to have some promise. The other major change is a significant increase in wage budget to just over 5k - which is just as well as all my players seem to want pay rises.

I am very concerned about my lack of a consistent tactic post-patch and need to work on that quickly, and will hold on to my transfer budget of 20k until I have a tactic that can work at this level.

I turned down 8 job offers while the team was performing well but they have dried up now we're settled in mid-table - that's OK, though, I don't think I want to go anywhere just yet.

That post-patch dip seems to be a regular occurence, Matt. You get over it, though.

I found a gentle "nudge" to my playmaker's instructions helped the tactics.
