Update on my current game, Dundee in the SPL (not exactly LLM, I hear the newbies cry) in season 2011/12 (interesting time to start an update in an FM2005, I hear everyone else's disinterested grumbling).
Reason I start here, though, is that I've done what I thought was impossible in FM2005 in a Scottish game, and that's to split the Auld Firm in the SPL.
Last season we finished 2nd, one point behind Rangers, one point in front of Celtic.
It could have been a lot different but for a shocking run in, the last 10 games saw us draw 5, lose 3 and win 2, 11 points out of a total of 30 possible, and this included no less than 7 opposition GK MoM in those 10 games.
Quick resumé of the game from the start. Thurrock for less than a season, approached by Northampton, took the job in League 2, got up to the Championship, looking like heading straight back down, applied for and took the job at League 2 Notts County, managed to get to the top of League 1 when Dundee came in with an offer, halfway through last season when they were lying 10th, and we managed to haul ourselves up to a 4th place finish and a EURO Vase (InterToto Cup) place.
In all this time we've never completed more than two rounds of any Cup Competition (except the EURO Vase), because Cups Suck Ass. Our reserves at Thurrock, Northampton, Notts County and Dundee have done us proud, mind you, but luckily they never have the stamina to hold a team off for a replay.
The EURO Vase saw us paired against Teams I've never heard of in the first three rounds, but we put them all to the sword, and St Gallen from Switzerland beat us on the away goals rule in the semi final round (Semi final's got 12 Teams in it!), so we didn't have a chance to shine in the EURO Cup (Uefa Cup).
We've a Euro Team Co-efficient of 196th, are seeded 2nd in the Champions' Cup, and the Board expect European Qualification and have given us £6m in transfer funds (which would see us straight into debt) and have upgraded the training facilities and are building 5355 new seats for our loyal fans.
Our DRC had a clean sweep of awards last season, Players' Player of the Year, Writers' Player of the Year, Young Player of the Year, and a place in the SPL Team of the Year.
One to watch is our Polish AMR who slinked into the First Team midway into last season and has displaced our Scottish International MRC as starting Right Winger.
Three First Team regulars reckon they're too good for Dens Park and are wanting away, and we had no youths promoted to the U-19's squad...interesting times ahead.

Congrats on your success.
I have one question based on the quote from your post. Others have been criticised for moving up 2 divisions in such a short period of time. I am not trying to belittle your achievement just get some consistancy on what is and isn't acceptable or deemed realistic.
At a guess i would imagine that the Cobblers were probably in deep trouble at the foot of the table and Thurrock were flying high on account of their manager signing anyone who could kick a ball!
