Danny, your points have all been made many, many times before by many, many people who no longer post here.
It's just like the question of whether the war in Iraq was justified. Everyone has their opinion and no matter what points/arguments are made, no-one will change what they initially thought.
Not questioning the ethics is forum policy, to save these same debates happening every month. Just watch out for the marshmallows if you;
KUTprovoking.

Danny - A simple solution would be to play LLM in another country that way there would be no "grey" area of "real life."

Nice. Petty insults. Great debate skills.

quote:

2. In my quest for realism, like any real life manager if I feel that there is a particular position I need to strengthen I will think 'hmm Mr X is a decent player in that position' and send my scouts for a look. This is REALISTIC. I only have 2 scouts incidentally, so I am not scouting countless players.

You've already had several answers that tell you we understand where you're coming from but through experience with the computer game have decided to approach this differently.
(See - I don't agree with your point, but I haven't resorted to insulting you because of it. This is how a discussion works, btw)

quote:

3. Don't ask ME where to draw the line

I thought you wanted a discussion? Merely saying we're wrong without putting forward your own opinion does not, unfortunately, make much of a discussion.

quote:

As for your bold text, I saw no point in replying. Its a forum - an exchange of opinions - and I'm discussing, and of course I want to make you change your point of view on the real life player knowledge issue, because in MY opinion it makes absolutely no sense.

Nice. It's an exchange of opinions, but only yours counts. I have to conclude you are nothing but a wind-up merchant.
If you don't like the way we do things, run along and play with Kubi and his friends.

Quite correct
The "holier than thou" "We are right you are wrong" attitude of the regulars here is ridiculus.
I made a post earlier stating a lot of the points that Danny made and was shot down.
I only posted here to let Danny know that he is not alone and I will continue to just lurk in the background.
As far as I am concerned there are probably more people who share Danny's and my views on LLM realism who refuse to post because the "minority" in power flame them to hell.
Also to iajafer, your attitude as a Moderator leaves a lot to be desired.

I don't understand why people feel the need to insist on this forum conforming to their views. You don't like the way it's done? Don't post here. It's fairly simple, isn't it? There are other forums on this site that don't care about player naming, tactic expounding, using editors, or even the posting of sonnets and haiku. So why is it that some of you lot feel you *have* to come in here and set us right?
You all are welcome to post LLM threads in GQ, GPG, or even T&T that will do all that you want and more.

Explain why. A single throwaway comment like that means jack.
Delurk and tell me.

I'll be the first to admit that the name of this forum may be a bit off.
You see this isn't a forum about managing in the lower leagues, a common misconception which I can understand based on the forums name. This is a forum about managing in the lower leagues and managing in a certain way that promotes realism. You may disagree with the guidelines presented in this forum, but these guidelines were in place when I registered and they will be here as long as the regulars who are here now stays here.
Why?
Because they have proven themselves over time. There are, however, changes and developements. The best example is the SYB guideline which wasn't here when I started and which has been discussed in great detail in the shed.
You may call it flaming SB, we...sorry, I see it as protecting what I hold dear.
If you don't like it then this place isn't for you.
Harsh? Maybe, but nonetheless that's how it is.

How are we "holier than thou" when we've all come to a consensus on the way we want to play the game? Nobody here has ever said that anyone is wrong, just that we choose to play this way, and that we request that if you disagree, you refrain from commenting on it here.
It's a pretty simple concept. The forum rules are stated quite clearly, as are the guidelines to playing the LLM way that we've come to a consensus on as being the most feasible in the way the game allows.
If you don't like them, or you don't agree, that's fine, we're not forcing you to. Demanding that we respect your opinions and acknowledge your chosen way of playing while you're posting in this forum, while disrespecting and disregarding our choice is beyond hypocritical. To attempt to further your argument by resorting to insults, while claiming to be looking for debate, but doing so whilst blatently ignoring the rules of both this forum (Questioning the ethics) and the SI Community (see rules on abuse, as insults are abuse) shows that you have no interest in anything other than to stir the pot.
I don't imagine that on your first day of work you waltz into your supervisor's office to tell him that you think there have to be a list of changes to your workplace. Why, then, do you expect to be able to do that here? The rules here are no more arbitrary than they are in a workplace just because you weren't consulted before they'd been decided upon. People have brought up legitimate questions in the past, and the rules have been altered after meaningful debate. Key word being debate, not whining.
If you want to contribute to the community, that is fine, just do so under the rules and guidelines that we all follow, and respect. If you choose not to follow those rules and guidelines, please do everyone a favour and post elsewhere.
