IRL the closest you'd get to a grey player would be a trailist i'd assume, as I assume from my knowledge you have to be registered to a club to play for them.

That's true but a player can be registered on the morning of a game as long as the referee signs the registration!

The last time I was registered for a team I had the intentions of making it to a Ryman league team at least, I had started training with them, and I broke my foot and tore ligaments in my ankle at the same time. And that was a few years ago.

At the moment i'm stuck trying to get a team together at work, so it's 7-a-side on a full pitch down the local park against anyone who wants to take us on.

and in answer to the topic, I tend to use an outfield player.

While we are on a self bragging part of the thread, I was on the books of Southampton, then Bournemouth. I also had England trials, I could have been a contender! That should have been me and not the slightly stocky Spurs keeper playing last night.

Not that I'm bitter about that!

Ah, I've never rated myself that good between the sticks. I played a few games back at school, but they stopped me playing due to my temper (3 reds in five games!), and I played right-back then, and have played more centre-forward in the last few years. When I done my foot I was going for a centre-back berth, which ****ed me off as I was doing well.

Saying that, I did score a hat-trick on Sunday (while in goal!)
Certain red-nosed Dane comes to mind!

Don't let Disco Stu see this post or we will be accused of bragging!

Up until a few years ago I was useless with my feet. Introduction of back pass rule put pay to a potential professional career. It turned out I had caught the eye of West Ham during a game against their Schoolboy team. That would have been an adventure!

All I need to do is get on the road, with the area I live in. Quite a few Ryman teams around. Might think about an amateur career if this team doesn't take off.
Mmmm...wonder if Virginia Water are still after players.

St Albans is a nice club. The ground is good for the standard and the playing surface looks special.

i'm not that good.

The nearest team to me is abbey rangers, who are in a league way, way, way lower. Could try them when I get used to keeping regulary again.

HIya Taips- I would approach this like a hockey manager and use a grey player. I see it as like signing an emergency goalie when your regular goaltenders are down with injuries. THis is fairly common in minor league hockey. The grey player in this case would represent some local beer or rec league player that you grab for a game or two out of necessity. Nothing really wrong with that. I can imagine that such a thing probably happens in lower football leagues as well.
