I've played this CM03/04 save for quite some time now, but figured I would try to fool around with an update thread. Hopefully it will be to the board's satisfaction. If not, let me know
Season 2003/04
I wanted a team with red colours, so not awfully much to choose from, but landed on Tamworth. New in Conference, so they should be hard to manage I figured.
The board wanted me to battla against relegation, fair enough.
Got three players on free. A young forward that turned out to be crap, and never played for the first-team, a DRL that played steadily for three seasons, and an AMR that was half-decent.
Also signed 8 staff people. An assman, some coaches and scouts.
We already had some pretty good forwards, including one powerhouse. They all did well, and scored for fun throughout the season. The powerhouse was my topscorer with a very impressive 34 goals
Won Conference with 109 points, 22 ahead of Dag & Red. Probably my best season ever in any save. Only one loss, and just kept on winning. Scored 92.
The cups went alright. Won FA Trophy on pens against Dag & Red.
Lost in 1st Round of FA Cup after replay against Plymouth.
All in all a great season, and we were ready for league football
We were ready for league football for the first time, so the board naturally was happy if we survived. They wanted us to battle against relegation again.
Made some crucial signings. DR from Blackpool for 2K. Sold him again in March for 100K. Great stuff. Got a forward from Liverpool for 4K. He played great and scored 35 goals, still a record 5 years later athough tied.
Got some other good players too, the best one being a AM/F RC on Bosman. He was the brain of the team, and did really well.
The season started out really well, and we never really doozed off. Fought with Leyton Orient all season, and finished 2nd 5 points behind them, on 94, we scored 90 and conceded 30. Tamworth were ready for 2nd Division football.
The cups went simply incredible. Had a fantastic league cup run. We even beat Manchester United 1-0 in a great defensive battle on our way to the semis. There we got slaughtered by Newcastle, but made great cash on the away match
Got beat by Brighton in FA Cup 1st Rnd on pens. We beat Hull 2-1 after extratime in Vans Trophy final.
Yet again a great season were very little went wrong. And with some good summer signings I felt comfortable before the new season. Unfortunetely one of the retired a week after I signed him
Despite our great season the board wanted us to battle against relegation.
Signed some good players. A very promising DMC for 30K, a good M RL for 30K, a striker and old midfielder for free. In January I signed an awesome striker for a massive 200K. It was worth it though, the man played like a God, scoring 26 in 18(2)
Last year's signing from Liverpool was topscorer again, this time with 30 hits.
No surprise we did very well in the league again. This time we won it, after running away for most of the season. 111 points and 34 wins, scoring 112 goals, and conceding 33. Very impressive. Rushden finished 2nd with 95 points and 103 goals. Torquay got promoted after playoff.
No luck in the big cups this time around. Got knocked out in first round of League Cup by Colchester 1-0, and 1st Rnd of FA Cup 3-0 by Grimsby.
We retained the Vans Trophy though, after beating Preston on pens after a 0-0 draw.
The fans went ballistic and built me a statue. That's nice
We were now ready for 1st Division football, and things should get much tougher. The board wanted me to battle against relegation as always, and I needed some new talent to survive.
Signed a very promising D LC from Port Vale for 20K. As he can't jump he was stuck on left-back. I needed a tighter defence so brought in two DCs. One great 17yo regen from Luton for 140K, and a more experienced from Chesterfield for 300K. Also signed a promising young DMC and GK, the latter in March. Signed an experienced MC from Leeds on Bosman.
We should be set for a battle now, with a much improved squad.
Started out well in league and was fighting for promotion. Improved as the new players settled in, and in the end we won Division One. 25 wins and 89 points, 5 ahead of Bolton. We scored 81 and conceded only 27. Rushden got promoted again, this time after playoff.
A half-decent run in the cups, but was unlucky on pens now. Knocked out in the League Cup 4th Rnd by Blackburn on pens after 0-0. And knocked out in the FA Cup 3rd Rnd by Liverpool on pens after replay and a 2-2 draw away. We weren't slaughtered, so I was happy, and nice money in the bag again
Last year's big striker signing was topscorer with 31 goals, and he played great all season, together with the right-winger that unfortunetely ran away on Bosman. It was a hard blow, but we could never have gotten promoted without him, so it turned out okay I guess.
The mighty Lambs are ready for Premier League
The board naturally wanted me to battle against relegation, and with some money in the transferkitty, and scouts on the road, we signed some new talent.
I needed a new right-winger, so got one on free after he was released by Liverpool. Signed a M RLC from Stockport for 550K. He's been awesome with great longshots. Signed a great 19yo striker from Barnsley for 500K. Probably my best ever buy. Also bought a very talented DR for a massive 2.5M from Plymouth, and some young talent for the U-19s.
We now had a very good defence, and started the season hardly conceding at all, and grabbed a few wins, and quite some draws. As the team gelled we did very well, and was hardly out of Europe all season. In the end we could have stolen the league from Manchester United, but one point in the last two games, got us 2nd on goal difference ahead of Newcastle, 2 points behind United. We won 19, scored 59 and conceded a very respectable 24, ended on 71 points.
The stadium got expanded a bit, to arund 5400.
Cups didn't go too well this year either. Out of League Cup 3rd Rnd by Everton 2-1 after extratime. Lost to 1st Div Leicester in 4th Rnd of the FA Cup.
The newsigned striker from Barnsley was topscorer with 19 goals
After last year's brilliant season, the board wanted a Euro spot, the fans wanted to fight for the title.
As my DL couldn't jump I needed a new man over there, and got him on Bosman from Bradford. Also signed a new young DC from Crystal Palace for 3M. Signed a AML on free, an old and experienced DMC for 1.8M, an MC for 1.5M and a good young talent in goal for 30K. Also sold some players, and got almost 4M for them.
Never hit really good form in the league as last year, but still managed to fight for 2nd all season, and managed to grab it in the end. Finished with 69 points, two ahead of Tottenham on 3rd. We won 20, scored 61 and conceded 29. Manchester United totally ran away with the league after an impressive 87 points.
Was knocked out by Southampton in League Cup 4th Rnd 1-0. Got knocked out in the Semi of FA Cup by Norwich 1-0, which was a big let-down.
The Champions League went much better though, we went through the group with 6 wins, and got the double against Juventus (:eek. 3-1 away, and 3-2 at home, it was actually deserved too. Not sure what happened there, but we played great football.
We eased past Rangers 8-2, and got Bayern in the Quarters. After a lucky game away we beat them 3-2 on aggregate. An insain CL season saw us against Juventus again in the Semis. This time we were not so lucky, but put on a great fight, but they beat us 3-2 agg, after I drew them 1-1 away. They didn't run over us, but they deserved the win. Manchester United later beat them in the final.
Had hoped for a better league run, but overall a great season. I tried to cross over to short-passing football this season, but it didn't really work out, so the last month I went back to direct, and that miraculously saved us the 2nd place again, after the other teams screwed up.
