Is there any way to add names for a specific country or language so that there is a greater variety of names available when random names are generated for regens? I think adding a few more would make it more realistic...

If you create players in the database editor with names, it becomes used with regens.

I done this recently, and used the name Turtle for a few players, and when playing the game regens and staff were generated with this surname.

That's interesting. Does this only work with players you add in yourself or does it also happen with players that are already in the DB?

I could be wrong, but I believe regens are created using first and surnames from the database. I created my own country, by editing Azerbaijan, and I noticed that alot of players that were regenerated were using the most popular names. Azerbaijan don't have many players in the database, so alot of the players had similar names. When I deleted every one of these players, every regen after came through with british names, using names already in the database, as well as those which I added.

That makes sense. So the more frequent a name is in the database, the more likely a regen of the same nationality will also have that name. Thats why names like "Taylor" occur more often than "Wright-Phillips".

Yep thats how its seems to be. So the more common the name is in the editor for that country, the more it will be used for regens.

I only discovered this as I having staff and greyed out players with British first names and Azerbaijan surnames. It annoyed me so much exterminated every Azerbaijan from the databse, and now all my Eternian's have the desired names.
