The non closing centre backs seem to be a good way of defending at lower level leagues. It makes the opposition take long shots often, as there is always a man between goal and the ball.
Players at this level fail to contribute any other means of scoring, and the computer AI will usually play a quick counter attacking long ball straight down the middle. To counter this just go slightly more narrow than before ensuring that the ball they send cannot be picked up on the wings or down the middle, and have less forward runs from midfield.
