I'm playing as the welsh national team, and using a 4-4-2 diamond sometimes dropping to a wide 4-1-3-2 I do score goals pretty consistently but all my "good" defenders especially in the DC position are out on long term injuries, and to ad to the horrors my GK is not top of the line
Now Anyone got tips on how to work with slow (pace/acc 10-12) and short (jump ~12) defenders so that I don't concede that much?
I did push their closing down up to often in one match and the oppositions chances were fewer but better, going with a deep d-line netted a WHOLE lot of space in front of them where a talented AMC kept banging them in, so I put my DMC on man marking him, the DM ended with a rating of 5 and a hairdryer
The reason for asking is that normally I've got a hang of defence, with usually around 0.5 a game conceded, but now I've had a 2-3 a 2-2 and a 2-2 game.
most of the goals are coming from a central position, either a through ball to the attacker who just takes 2 steps and are 5 yards ahead of my dc or a shot from just about the penalty box line that my keeper just watches as it whistles into the net...
I've been thinking about going to 4-1-4-1 to get more control in the middle, but I'm affraid that this will limit my offence too much
oh and bellamy is a treat as a run onto ball target man
Not easy when your 2nd tier defenders are bad. What sort of teams are you playing whilst they are out?
If they are against really poor sides, I'd throw the defence out of the window so to speak and go with the mentality "we'll score more than you".
If you're against good defences, it might be worth playing Bellamy upfront on his own, limiting your attack, adding another defender/midfielder and use Bellamy as a target man. Try and bully the opposition in the middle and sneak a goal with Bellamy's pace???
Its interesting to hear that increasing closing down has worked with slower defenders as I have always found that lowering closing down when my DCs are out-paced has had good effect.
I have also found that putting putting short barrows on my DCs towards the goals have greatly reduced opponents success at counter attacking.
Well Closing down did work in the sense that they get fewer shots at goal, the bad thing is the ~5 chances they get are really hairy, so I'm gonna go with tight man marking in the future, the wales game was dropped aftera few seasons, got boored playing 10 games a season
Well playing as Watford you have very bad defenders i had Pocoglin De Merit Cagula Doyle (penalty god always gave 1 away)
And finished with a goal difference of 28 in my first season finishing 10th.... This was o way in part to a solid defence as you can probably tell i did let in over 60 goals... But i play with a bad defnce with the philosphy of the best form of defence is attack....
So if you have a bad defence accept losing goals but Buy Eddie Johnson Steffan Iversen and attack attack attack - - works for me! lol
