It's no use having a squad full of star players without a decent way for them to play their football.

Default Accrington Stanley – Who are they!? Tactics challenge

A while back (I think it was some time last month) someone suggested that all us FM fanatics should embark on a tactical challenge with Ajax. I had a great time doing it but after winning the league in the first season playing a 4231 I was unfulfilled.

So here is my suggestion:

Lets have a similar thread devoted to the tactical nightmare that will be managing Accrington Stanley!!

I usually embark on games with some of the larger teams such as Everton (up the toffees!), Athletico and Lazio etc And because of the nature of these teams it can be quite easy to have the players doing all the hard work while employing a substandard tactic.

The hope here is that we can get some intriguing tactical discussions going relevant to lower league management and hopefully some discussion about higher league management (if anyone can get them out of the depths of the football league!).

The ultimate goal will be to develop a tactic which can get a team like Acky into the higher echelons and not have to change when you get there. Im giving myself 5 years (in game time not real life! Lol) to get them into the championship.

Team Run Down:

Accrington Stanley – Media Prediction 23rd League Two
Budget – 25k
Stadium – 5057 capacity

Noteworthy players (i dont have any knowledge of them but a quick look through suggests the following)

Almeida dc
Mullin st
Grant (dm)

If anyone is interested please start posting!

Don't want to look like I'm hijacking your thread mate but if you want a real challenge, try winning the Seria with Parma within 5 seasons.

Right then, time for my tactics.

in the pre season i managed to pick up two players:

Ryan Gyacki - Am from Sheff utd 5k
Joe anyinsah - winger from preston 2k

im hoping to start off simple with a 442 with long farrowed wingers and using paul mullin as a targetman

but heres the difference - i want the support striker (think im gonna use boco cos hes quite quick) to be transferable - i want him to be able to move to AM behind a sole striker depending on the in game scenarios and opposition a la wayne rooney for man u e.g. i want to be able to freely change between 442 and 4411

also the two MC are gonna be relatively defensive minded as i want to play down the wings so these boys might be required to drop to DM but i will see how the results go first.

I will squeeze in an hours worth of play when I get back from work tonight (before the big match on BBC1).

I will let you know how it goes, but I won't be telling you who I sign though.

Sounds like a good challenge. I'm in the middle of a Sunderland game at the moment which I'm enjoying immensly but will give this a go at some point. Just to clarify, are you hoping to develop a single tactic that will get you to the championship unchanged, or a few tactics that will eventually lead to a tactic that you can use in the championship?

well im lookng for a template that i can use throughout the career

for example the 442 im trying to use at the minute can be turned into 4411 quite easily with no significant changes to player instructions - maybe i will find a formula which works as a 4231 as well with no significant changes

but im totally open to suggestions and if we can some people doing the challenge we can compare results

Time for an update:

1st game up was torquay at home which produced a disappointing 1-0 defeat – in this game I employed the normal style 442 but sruggled throughout

Next up was boston away and I decided to stick with the tactics despite being underdogs – after not doing much in the first half we went in 1 – 0 down. Time for a change in tactics then: I moved the second striker (boco) into the AM position behind big paul mullin and it worked wonders – finished the game 3-1 to us and Boco bagged two as well as an assist.

I stuck with this set up for the next game against Wycombe (promotion contenders) and like the second half of the last game we battered them! Boco bagged again in the AM position and Joe Anyinsah (Right Mid with long farrow) scored and got man of the match

Fingers crossed – this seems to be working
