Im Wigan in 2010 and i have about 6 or 7 good defenders.ie: pace and acceleration 16 or above each, dominant in the air, 15 on positioning each, concenttration and decision making are both in the high teens, marking ok aswell, 14. But i cannot go more than one game without conceding at least 3 goals.
As a team, we play short passing with a slow tempo and like to counter attack. My defense are all on deep defending with more direct passing. They tight zonal mark too.
Can anyone give any helpful suggestions as to how i can concede less? Thank you Jesus.
In my current game with Derby I have my back 4 all on Tight/Man marking (not specific man marking) They are all on a mentality of 7 with the CB's on 6 closing down and the FB's on 7 closing down. None of them make forward runs and only the FB's run with ball mixed and cross mixed. With these settings I have only conceded 29 league goals in 39 games and have kept plenty of clean sheets. It may not be superb but its the best defensive system I have found on FM2007 so far.
To add to this I also play without a holding midfielder, and allow all 4 mids to often make forward runs and play with an attacking mentality. They close down on the first notch of often and seem to form a solid shield for the back 4. Give it a try and see how it goes

Counter attacking style of play is pants in my opinion, I've tried a lot of different settings, and tweaked it, and all it does is invite unwanted pressure on my back 4.

I play counter-attacking in all my fm07 games regardless of which club/level I play at and find it really effective. It depends on the style of system you use, and it doesn't always mean that to sit back giving the opposition the ball just to try and hit them on the break.
I have my current tactic (4-4-2) set up so that I try to keep the ball as much as possible, but because I like flashy wingers I send most of the play down the flanks. I find that because I have counter-attack on, I score a huge number of goals from quick attacks down the wings, or a ball knocked on from my target-man to my pacey striker. I still score plenty of goals from a normal build-up though, and I quite often dominate posession. c-a doesn't automatically mean getting murdered, it depends more on your system and players.
